He has been the chef instructor at Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School, competed in three Culinary Olympics in Erfurt, Germany, and has prepared meals for the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

• 6:30 p.m. — The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba in collaboration with Assiniboine Community Centre will be hosting the return of WestmAnimation, a mini-festival of animations that have been created within the last five years. Screening of submissions will be held at ACC at 6:30 p.m. and then again on Oct. 12 at AGSM from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Both days will feature different submissions as well as curated National Film Board animations. MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

• Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Winter hours: 1 to 4 p.m., seven days a week. The museum will remain open until Remembrance Day, Nov. 11, with a free open house, and reopen on April 1, 2024 for the 100th anniversary of the RCAF (weather permitting). The museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial is open to the public from sunrise to sundown. For more information, call the museum at 204-727-2444.

• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Returning this fall is Daly After Dark — the weird Victorian history and what Brandon was up to on Halloween in the past — exhibit and candlelight tours. Tours take place Oct. 20, 25, 27 and 31 from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 each, available through Eventbrite, and are limited. • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — In September 2023, we opened our Second World War vehicle display. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. The exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — “A contemporary art gallery, school and shop that celebrates artistic excellence and diversity within our region and beyond.” The AGSM is Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first. “Let Them Fly” is in the Community Gallery until Oct. 14 and “Oneirophyte,” featuring five digital artists from Manitoba, is in the Main Gallery today through Nov. 11. • Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. • Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. • 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

• ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

• Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. Entering the museum is like stepping back in time to the 1880s, as you’ll notice the Victorian stylings throughout the home, which is complete with a spacious coach house. As of Sept. 1, we are closed for the season. Tours may be arranged by appointment by calling 204-748-1659 for more information. Admission prices: $5 adults; $2 school-aged children.

Features 175 booths of local, handmade arts and crafts and food with new vendors in attendance each weekend. • Oct. 25-28 — Manitoba Ag Ex, the largest all-breeds cattle show in Manitoba, attracts exhibitors and visitors from across the Prairies to the Keystone Centre. • Nov. 5 — Habitat for Humanity Manitoba, Brandon Chapter, and The Pandolfi Initiative are proud to present the fifth annual Big Daddy Tazz and Friends Comedy Show at the Amphitheatre in the Keystone Centre. Hosted by Big Daddy Tazz, the show will feature 2015 Top Canadian Comic Derek Seguin and the 2020 Comedian of the North, Nelson Mayer. Tickets are $37 and available at Ticketmaster.ca (type “Big Daddy Tazz” in the search engine). • Nov. 10 — The Brandon University Bobcats basketball teams take on Thompson Rivers University at the Healthy Living Centre (2010 Louise Ave.) On Nov. 10, the women’s game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m. On Nov. 11, the women’s game tips off at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.

• Nov. 12 — A Christmas market, the third annual Deck the Halls, will be held in the Kemnay Recreation Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free admission.
