Rev. and Mrs. E. Fuhrmann and family, who arrived in Virden recently to commence duties in the Pentecostal church, will also be in charge of the church in Oak Lake.

John MacKay, the star running back with the Brandon Kruggers, topped the polls in the Sportsman of the Month contest for October.
Dr. F.J.E. Purdie of Brandon has been named chairman of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba and is to sit on two other committees.
FORTY YEARS AGO
Mildred Murray, a 10-year veteran of the Brandon school board, was unanimously elected as board chairman by the other nine trustees. It is the first time she has held the position.
THIRTY YEARS AGO
About 60 municipal politicians and members of the business community gave officials of Bearskin Airlines a warm reception at a luncheon here today. The Ontario-based airline is one of four carriers identified as having the potential to serve this market.
TWENTY YEARS AGO
Leanne Gregory, a full-time student at Brandon University, was awarded the first youth Distinguished Service volunteer award at this year’s Prix Manitoba Awards in Brandon.
TEN YEARS AGO
Less than a month after a major provincial cabinet shuffle, newly minted Education and Advanced Learning Minister James Allum visited Brandon University with $250,000 in hand on Friday. The annual funding will create a new graduate program, allowing students to pursue a master of science degree in environment and life sciences.
In the unlikely event there was any doubt, Progressive Conservative Leader Brian Pallister on Friday reaffirmed his party’s opposition to the NDP government’s increase of the provincial sales tax. On the eve of Tuesday’s throne speech, which will outline the Selinger government’s priorities for the coming year, the Tory leader said the PST increase as of July 1 has been a job-killer.
Electronic anklets used to monitor highrisk car thieves under house arrest in Manitoba will now be attached to the legs of some people convicted in domestic abuse cases. The province says it expects only about six offenders will be outfitted with GPS-equipped anklets each year.
