TODAY

• 10:15 to 11 a.m. — Story and Song Circle with Michelle at the Brandon Public Library. Preschoolers can join Michelle for stories, songs and crafts. The presence of a caregiver or parent is required. No registration necessary.

• 5:30 p.m. — Assiniboine Theatre Company presents a dinner theatre production of “The Kitchen Witches” by Caroline Smith at the Ukrainian Reading Hall (1005 Assinibone Ave.) Cast includes Karen Chrest, Sandy Jasper, Dakota Johnston and Michael Nelson with director John Szabo. • 6:30 p.m. — Join the John Howard Society of Brandon for “Crossing The Line,” a fundraiser that will feature a comedy roast of Mayor Jeff Fawcett, a live auction, dunk tank and 50/50 draw at the Victoria Inn. • 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place inside The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave., Brandon). Local fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, yarn, bison, beef, beeswax candles, crafts and more. This event runs year-round.

• 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. — Senior Central Dances are starting for the season every Friday (until Dec. 15) at the Central Community Centre (529 Fourth St.) with coffee and lunch to follow. Prairie Fire will provide the music. Cost is $15 per person. Come and join us!

• 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. — Gold Leaf Events presents a Christmas Market in the Grand Salon at the Victoria Inn (3550 Victoria Ave.). Shop from more than 50 vendors. Admission is $3 (12 and under are free). There will be food, Market Dollar giveaways, a raffle with proceeds going to A Tail to Tell Frontline Animal Rescue. A portion of the door admission will be donated to the Brandon Westman Christmas Cheer!

• 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. — Sustainable Brandon will host a family clothing swap at Knox United Church. Recycle clothing by swapping what you don’t want or need with someone else. All are welcome.

• 3 p.m. — Kaleidoscope Concerts presents an unforgettable afternoon of fun and laughter at the Al Simmons Concert for Kids at the Neepawa Legion Hall (425 Brown Ave.) Tickets are $10 for kindergarten to adult; pre-schoolers are free. • 7:30 p.m. — Everyone’s invited to enjoy the Club 77 Dance at the Shriners’ Hall (1110 McTavish Ave. East) from 7:30 to 11 p.m. with music by Northern Reflections. This dance will have a western theme, so cowboy gear is optional but appropriate and you’re reminded we will have tickets available for our annual dinner dance at the hall coming up on Dec. 9. • 4 p.m. — Royal Canadian Legion Brandon Branch No. 3 is hosting a Grey Cup party in the lounge with chili and wings. Tickets are $15 per person and available in the Legion lounge.

• 6 p.m. — Canadian comedian Jon Dore with guest Jordan Welwood will be performing at the Keystone Centre Amphitheatre. Doors open at 6 p.m.; show at 7 p.m. Tickets on sale at ticketmaster.ca. This is a 16+ event.

MONDAY

• Noon and 5:30 p.m. — Trans Day of Remembrance will take place at Knox United Church (451 18th St.) with a memorial service from noon to 1 p.m. followed by a light lunch. Can attend in person or livestream on youtube.com/TheKnoxKonnexion. A candlelight vigil starts at 5:30 p.m. Dress warm for outside, then join us inside for cookies and refreshments.

• 1 to 4 p.m. — Join members of the Brandon Scrabble Club on Wednesdays for an afternoon of Scrabble, coffee and laughs at the Brandon Public Library. Scrabble boards are provided and all levels of skill are welcome. No registration is required.

• Lady of the Lake (135-B 17th St. North, Brandon) — It is Open Mic Night at 8 p.m. on Friday for all local artists and entertainers to show off their talent. We want everyone from musicians to comedians, spoken word artists to ventriloquists. Tickets $5. • The 40 (210 18th St. North, Brandon) — Medal hardcore hitters SPECTRE, Indigo and T.H.I.S. Band take to the stage at The 40 on Friday. Doors open at 9 p.m.; music at 10 p.m. $10 cover. Then back by poplar demand on Saturday is The Bloodshots, a rock and roll band from Western Canada with a set of original tunes, a set of killer covers and a set in tribute to Nirvana! • Houstons Country Roadhouse (3130 Victoria Ave.) — No BEEF Hip Hop at Houstons on Friday with some classics, current, underground, Afrobeat and dancehall! There’s a $10 cover.

• Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — The museum is closed as of Nov. 12 and will reopen April 1, 2024. For more information, call the museum at 204-727-2444.

• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). Admission: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth (six to 18 years old), family (up to two adults and three children) $12, and children under five are admitted free. • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — In September 2023, we opened our Second World War vehicle display. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. The exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — “A contemporary art gallery, school and shop that celebrates artistic excellence and diversity within our region and beyond.” The AGSM is Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first. It boasts two art galleries, studios for youth and adult classes, a gift shop that supports more than 90 Manitoban artists and artisans. The Gala of Gifts and Great Big Little Chili Bowl Sale will be taking place on Nov. 25, followed by the 19th annual Members’ Show in the Main Gallery from Nov. 30 to Dec. 16. Surien Fourie’s “Soul Bearing” is in the Community Gallery until Jan. 13, 2024. • Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. • Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. • 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

• ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

• Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. We are now closed for the season and will open again in the spring of 2024.

• Nov. 23-25 — Mecca Productions proudly presents “Elf Jr.” at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Nightly shows at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 and 24. • Nov. 25 — ArtsForward’s Glorious Christmas Wish Sale will be held in the Yellowhead Community Centre in Neepawa (175 Mountain Ave.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is ArtsForward’s biggest fundraiser of the year and is filled with Manitoba-made products. Come meet some amazing artists and have your photo taken with Santa!

• Nov. 25 — The Minnedosa Performing Arts Committee’s Expressions Concert Series presents a Buzz Brass Christmas at Tanner’s Crossing School at 7:30 p.m. Adults $20; children under the age of 18 are free when accompanied by and adult with a ticket. • Nov. 25 — The fourth annual Apple + Pine Christmas Market will be held in the Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with more than 100 local makers from across the province. We will have food and beverage vendors, home décor, adult clothing and accessories, children’s clothing, jewelry and more! Tickets are $5 at the door; children 12 and under are free.

• Nov. 25 — The Brandon Flight Centre presents Great Canadian Duelling Pianos in the Regency Ballroom at the Clarion Hotel & Suites (3130 Victoria Ave.). Enjoy an evening of sips, snacks, raffles and a stunning live performance. • Nov. 26 — Andrew Balfour’s War Oratorio Notinikew: Stories of forgotten Indigenous soldiers will take place at Brandon City Hall from 3 to 5 p.m. Award-winning Cree composer Andrew Balfour brings his Truth and Reconciliation project, “Notinikew (going to war)” to Brandon University as artist-in-residence from Nov. 20-26. The performance at Brandon City Hall will feature BU Chorale, directed by Andree Dagenais with special guests: Leanne Zacharias, cellist; Cory Campbell, songkeeper; Nolan Kehler, tenor; and narrated by Andrew Balfour.

• Nov. 30 — A film screening at the Evans Theatre on the Brandon University campus with Q&A tackles gender fluidity and power of art. “The Floating Man,” a film directed by award-winning Canadian writer and artist Michael V. Smith, will be screened at 7 p.m. His film blends DIY documentary, road trip, performance art and video poem into an intimate self-portrait that examines a lifetime of untrue stories about his body. Smith will be in attendance and available for Q&A.

• Dec. 1 and 2 — The Brandon University Bobcats volleyball teams take on the University of Fraser Valley at the Healthy Living Centre (2010 Louise Ave.) On Dec. 1, the women’s game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 7:45 p.m. On Nov. 4, the women play at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 6:45 p.m.

• Dec. 2 — The ninth annual Christmas Craft Show will take place at the Onanole Rec Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with close to 40 Manitoba vendor tables. This is a joint fundraiser between Friends of RMNP and the Onanole Rec Centre.

• Dec. 2 — A perogy lunch and Christmas bake sale featuring perogies, cabbage rolls and baked goods for sale will be held at the Ukrainian Reading Association Hall (1005 Assiniboine Ave.) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sponsored by St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.

• Dec. 2-3 — Christmas Shopping at The Dome (on the Keystone Centre grounds) will feature a large variety of vendors with something special for everyone on your Christmas list. Hours: Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $3 and children five and under are free.

• Dec. 4 — The CP Holiday Train will be making its way across the province with stops in Portage la Prairie from 11:15 a.m. to noon opposite the Centennial Arena (390 First St.); Neepawa from 2:35 to 3:15 p.m. at the CPKC Railway Station between Mountain Avenue and Currie Avenue; Minnedosa from 4 to 4:45 p.m. west of the CPKC Station (north side of rail yard at 30 Second Ave.); Shoal Lake from 7:15 to 8 p.m. at the gravel lot adjacent to the grain elevator on North Railway Avenue. Performers will be the Anyway Gang, a Canadian band featuring Dave Monks from Toyko Police Club, Sam Roberts from Sam Roberts Band, Menno Versteeg from Hollerado and Chris Murphy from Sloan.

• Dec. 5 — The Brandon Wheat Kings host the Red Deer Rebels at Westoba Place at 7 p.m. Tickets available at the Keystone Centre box office.

• Dec. 7 — The Brockie Donovan 26th annual Tree of Memories Community Candlelight Memorial Service, an evening for members of the community to join together to remember our loved ones who are no longer with us to celebrate the holidays. Community members are invited to place an ornament bearing the name of their loved one on the Tree of Memories. The service will take place at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church (635 McDiarmid Dr.) at 7 p.m. If you would like an ornament to place on the tree, call 204-727-0694, and we can prepare your ornament and confirm your attendance. Everyone is welcome.

• Dec. 8 — The Brandon Wheat Kings host the Moose Jaw Warriors at Westoba Place at 7 p.m. Tickets available at the Keystone Centre box office.

• Dec. 9 — Come join us at Santa Land at the Sportsplex Arena from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will be a variety of stations, cookie decorating, hot chocolate bar, Christmas crafts and a holiday storytime with the Western Manitoba Regional Library. There will also be a photo booth area as well. Santa visits are from 1:30 to 3 p.m. only. All activities are free of charge and covered under the $5 admission fee. No pre-registration necessary.

• Dec. 12 — Brandon University Chamber Music in Concert will take place in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at 7 p.m. Five diverse chamber groups will perform including works by Barber, Schumann, J.S. Bach, Sanit-Saens, Alice Pink Yee Ho, Argento and Brahms. This recital is the culmination of the work these students have done in the Chamber Music course during the 2023 fall term. • Dec. 17 — Stars On Ice returns to the Westoba Place in the Keystone Centre with their special holiday performance at 5 p.m. Elvis Stojko brings a star-studded cast of Canadian and International skaters including Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, Keegan Messing, Alex Knierim and Brandon Frazier, Satoko Miyahara, Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro, Elladj Balde and more.
