9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place inside The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave., Brandon). Local fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, yarn, bison, beef, beeswax candles, crafts and more. This event runs year-round.

9:30 a.m. — The Parkinsons Social Group is having a breakfast meeting at the Aaltos Restaurant in the Canad Inn. This informal group welcomes anyone with Parkinsons, care partners, family and friends. For more information, call Val at 204-761-6196.

6 p.m. — Riverbank Make and Take presents Quill Earring Craft Night at the Riverbank Discovery Centre (1-545 Conservation Dr.). 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — ArtsForward’s Glorious Christmas Wish Sale will be held in the Yellowhead Community Centre in Neepawa (175 Mountain Ave.) This is ArtsForward’s biggest fundraiser of the year and is filled with Manitoba-made products. Come meet some amazing artists and have your photo taken with Santa!

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — The fourth annual Apple + Pine Christmas Market will be held in the Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre with more than 100 local makers from across the province. We will have food and beverage vendors, home décor, adult clothing and accessories, children’s clothing, jewelry and more! Tickets are $5 at the door; children 12 and under are free.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — The annual “Fill the Bus” campaign in support of Brandon-Westman Christmas Registry will take place at Sobeys West. Donations of non-perishable food, new toys are gratefully accepted as well as monetary donations. Will also be at the Safeway store at the Corral Centre on Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. — The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba once again presents its Gala of Gifts. This fine art and craft sale features unique handmade gifts by local makers and is an important fundraising event for the AGSM. Also includes a raffle and live music. Door entry is $2, but the first 50 guests get in free.

11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. — Mecca Productions proudly presents “Elf Jr.” at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium with matinées at 11 a.m. and again at 3:30 p.m. The 11 a.m. performance has a VIP section, where for an extra $10 per ticket you can get a seat in the middle and are able to attend a meet and greet with the cast before the show at 10:15 a.m. Tickets are available at the WMCA box office or by calling 204-728-9510.

7 p.m. — The Brandon Flight Centre presents Great Canadian Duelling Pianos in the Regency Ballroom at the Clarion Hotel & Suites (3130 Victoria Ave.). Enjoy an evening of sips, snacks, raffles and a stunning live performance. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — The 28th annual Santa Brunch will be held in the Oak Lake Community Hall. Children’s games, visit and pictures with Santa, shopping for under 12 years of age, silent auction. Admission is $15 for 12 and above; children six to 11 years are $5 and those under five years get in free. Hosted by Oak Lake Museum Board and Oak Lake Community School Parent Advisory Council.

3 to 5 p.m. — Andrew Balfour’s “War Oratorio Notinikew: Stories of Forgotten Indigenous Soldiers” will take place at Brandon City Hall. Award-winning Cree composer Andrew Balfour brings his Truth and Reconciliation project, “Notinikew (going to war)” to Brandon University as artist-in-residence from Nov. 20-26. The performance at Brandon City Hall will feature BU Chorale, directed by Andree Dagenais with special guests: Leanne Zacharias, cellist; Cory Campbell, songkeeper; Nolan Kehler, tenor; and narrated by Andrew Balfour.

7:30 p.m. — The Brandon University School of Music pro series is proud to present 46th Eckhardt-Gramatte National Music Competition Winner’s Tour with McKenzie Warriner, soprano, and Danielle Guina, piano, will take place at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Tickets are $20 and available at the door.

WEDNESDAY

1 to 4 p.m. — Join members of the Brandon Scrabble Club on Wednesdays for an afternoon of Scrabble, coffee and laughs at the Brandon Public Library. Scrabble boards are provided and all levels of skill are welcome. No registration is required.

Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — The museum is closed as of Nov. 12 and will reopen April 1, 2024. For more information, call the museum at 204-727-2444.

Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). Admission: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth (six to 18 years old), family (up to two adults and three children) $12, and children under five are admitted free. Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — In September 2023, we opened our Second World War vehicle display. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. The exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — “A contemporary art gallery, school and shop that celebrates artistic excellence and diversity within our region and beyond.” The AGSM is Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first. It boasts two art galleries, studios for youth and adult classes, a gift shop that supports more than 90 Manitoban artists and artisans. The Gala of Gifts and Great Big Little Chili Bowl Sale will be taking place on Nov. 25, followed by the 19th annual Members’ Show in the Main Gallery from Nov. 30 to Dec. 16. Surien Fourie’s “Soul Bearing” is in the Community Gallery until Jan. 13, 2024. Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 204-554-0023.

Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. Guided tours and visits are Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Admission by donation. Booking in advance is strongly recommended. Phone 204-717-1514 or email bgmainfo@wcgwave.ca. Our next Show and Tell speaker series is Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. with Robert Smith, who will be discussing the rich agricultural history of Brandon and area. 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. We are now closed for the season and will open again in the spring of 2024.

Nov. 30 — A film screening at the Evans Theatre on the Brandon University campus with Q&A tackles gender fluidity and power of art. “The Floating Man,” a film directed by award-winning Canadian writer and artist Michael V. Smith, will be screened at 7 p.m. His film blends DIY documentary, road trip, performance art and video poem into an intimate self-portrait that examines a lifetime of untrue stories about his body. Smith will be in attendance and available for Q&A.

Nov. 30 — The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba’s 19th annual Members’ Show will be showing in the Main Gallery from Nov. 30 to Dec. 16. For the 19th year running, the AGSM is proud to host a show and sale featuring work by its talented artist members. Opening reception takes place at 7 p.m. Lunch and Look on Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. Artwork pickup from Dec. 18-23.

Dec. 1 — The Brandon Wheat Kings host the Regina Pats at Westoba Place at 7 p.m. Tickets available at the Keystone Centre box office.

Dec. 1 — The Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation is hosting the 2023 Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. to kick off the Tree of Lights Campaign. Murray Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC has offered to partner with us and will host our breakfast in their showroom. Along with the sit-down breakfast we will also provide delivery service for larger group orders (six or more). The Crocus Plains Culinary Arts Studies students will once again prepare the breakfast. Dec. 1 and 2 — The Brandon University Bobcats volleyball teams take on the University of Fraser Valley at the Healthy Living Centre (2010 Louise Ave.) On Dec. 1, the women’s game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 7:45 p.m. On Nov. 4, the women play at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 6:45 p.m.

Dec. 2 — Brandon University Orchestra with guest Prof. Laura Jones and Brandon University Concert Choir (Andree Dagenais, director) in performance at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cathedral (403 13th St.) at 7:30 p.m. Adults $15; 13 to 18 years of age $5. No admission for all BU students, Conservatory of Music students and under 13.

Dec. 2 — Join Scott Woods and his talented band for an uplifting two-hour, family-friendly show featuring Christmas carols, fun fiddle tunes and some country and gospel songs at Knox United Church (451 18th St.) at 7 p.m. Tickets are $45 and may be purchased by calling 1-855-726-8896 or at Brandon Florist (761 18th St.).

Dec. 2 — The ninth annual Christmas Craft Show will take place at the Onanole Rec Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with close to 40 Manitoba vendor tables. This is a joint fundraiser between Friends of RMNP and the Onanole Rec Centre.

Dec. 2 — A perogy lunch and Christmas bake sale featuring perogies, cabbage rolls and baked goods for sale will be held at the Ukrainian Reading Association Hall (1005 Assiniboine Ave.) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sponsored by St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Dec. 2 — Strathclair Theatre Chorus’ “It’s Christmas” will be held in the Hamiota Elementary School at 2 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Hamiota United Church. Advance tickets are $20 and available by contacting Rosalie at 204-764-2108. At the door tickets will be $25 each.

Dec. 2 — “Steppin’ Out” Old Tyme Dance takes place at the Royal Canadian Legion No. 3 (560 13th St. East) from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Live music by Prairie Fire. Admission is $15 which includes lunch/Christmas goodies. All are welcome. For more information, call Barbara at 204-728-5636.

Dec. 2-3 — Christmas Shopping at The Dome (on the Keystone Centre grounds) will feature a large variety of vendors with something special for everyone on your Christmas list. Hours: Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $3 and children five and under are free.

Dec. 3 — Knox United Church (451 18th St.) invites you to the annual Taste of the Holidays supper with one sitting only at 5:30 p.m. We will be serving roast pork loin with gravy, homemade meatballs, bread dressing along with all the extra fixings. Adults $18; under 12 $8; preschoolers are free! Gluten-free options will be available. For tickets, call the church office at 204-727-6975 or Sharon 204-728-0541. Dec. 4 — Dauphin’s Countryfest presents Jess Moskaluke Winter Wonderland Tour with guests The Prairie States with Christmas classics from her “A Small Town Christmas” album, plus her hits. Takes place at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets available at the WMCA box office or by calling 204-728-9510.

Dec. 4 — The CP Holiday Train will be making its way across the province with stops in Portage la Prairie from 11:15 a.m. to noon opposite the Centennial Arena (390 First St.); Neepawa from 2:35 to 3:15 p.m. at the CPKC Railway Station between Mountain Avenue and Currie Avenue; Minnedosa from 4 to 4:45 p.m. west of the CPKC Station (north side of railyard at 30 Second Ave.); Shoal Lake from 7:15 to 8 p.m. at the gravel lot adjacent to the grain elevator on North Railway Avenue. Performers will be the Anyway Gang, a Canadian band featuring Dave Monks from Tokyo Police Club, Sam Roberts from Sam Roberts Band, Menno Versteeg from Hollerado and Chris Murphy from Sloan.

Dec. 5 — Brandon University Big Band Concert will take place at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at 7 p.m. At the end of the fall term of 2023, the Brandon University Big Band presents a short concert featuring part of the repertoire that the bank has been working on. The program includes works by Count Basie, Don Menza, Bob Mintzer, Bob Brookmeyer and Bill Holman. No admission charge.

Dec. 5 — Laughing All the Way, a Christmas comedy and carols experience for the whole family with Leland Klassen and Dan Macaulay will take place at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church (635 McDiarmid Dr.) at 7 p.m. Tickets available at Eventbrite.ca.

Dec. 6 — Assiniboine Community College’s Holiday Buffet dinner and market will take place at the North Hill campus with seating times at 5:30 p.m.; 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. A hot and cold buffet dinners is complimented by a dessert room with mouth-watering, decadent confections. The food showcased at this event is grown and cultivated at ACC’s North Hill campus as part of the college’s field to fork approach. Your $65 ticket is all-inclusive with the exception of the bar and an evening market with products to purchase created by the Culinary Arts and Baking Foundations students. Tickets are sold in groups of two and four with a maximum of four tickets per caller. Tickets are non-refundable. Dec. 7 — The Brockie Donovan 26th annual Tree of Memories Community Candlelight Memorial Service, an evening for members of the community to join together to remember our loved ones who are no longer with us to celebrate the holidays. Community members are invited to place an ornament bearing the name of their loved one on the Tree of Memories. The service will take place at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church (635 McDiarmid Dr.) at 7 p.m. If you would like an ornament to place on the tree, call 204-727-0694, and we can prepare your ornament and confirm your attendance. Everyone is welcome.

Dec. 8 — The Brandon Wheat Kings host the Moose Jaw Warriors at Westoba Place at 7 p.m. Tickets available at the Keystone Centre box office.

Dec. 8 — The Brandon University Brass Ensemble will perform a Christmas Concert at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at 7 p.m. Edward Bach, conductor. No admission charge.

Dec. 9 — Come join us at Santa Land at the Sportsplex Arena from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. There will be a variety of stations, cookie decorating, hot chocolate bar, Christmas crafts and a holiday storytime with the Western Manitoba Regional Library. There will also be a photo booth area as well. Santa visits are from 1:30 to 3 p.m. only. All activities are free of charge and covered under the $5 admission fee. No pre-registration necessary.

Dec. 9 — Come and be a part of the very first Santa at the Garden at the International Peace Garden from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kids will have the chance to get creative and bring home a decorated cookie from our Cookie Decorating with Gerry station. There will be lots of crafts to keep little ones busy. Gift shop is full of holiday treasures and independent vendors will be on hand. Will also be outdoor activities for everyone to delight in.

Dec. 9 — Gold Leaf events is hosting a Christmas Market in Minnedosa at the Community Conference Centre (63 Main St. North) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shop from more than 30 makers and sellers. There’s a $2 admission, and 12 and under get in free. There will be a raffle, Market Dollar giveaways and more.

Dec. 12 — Brandon University Chamber Music in Concert will take place in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at 7 p.m. Five diverse chamber groups will perform including works by Barber, Schumann, J.S. Bach, Sanit-Saens, Alice Pink Yee Ho, Argento and Brahms. This recital is the culmination of the work these students have done in the Chamber Music course during the 2023 fall term. No admission charge.

Dec. 17 — Stars On Ice returns to the Westoba Place in the Keystone Centre with their special holiday performance at 5 p.m. Elvis Stojko brings a star-studded cast of Canadian and International skaters including Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, Keegan Messing, Alex Knierim and Brandon Frazier, Satoko Miyahara, Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro, Elladj Balde and more. Dec. 17 — Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival is thrilled to announce the grand finale of 2023 with two spectacular Holiday Lights concerts in Brandon and Winnipeg. The enchanting performances will take place at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall, Brandon University School of Music at 7 p.m. The Winnipeg concert takes place Dec. 23 at Broadway United Church at 7 p.m. Artistic Director Daniel Tselyakov will captivate the audience with a virtuosic rendition of Pletnev’s arrangement of The Nutcracker and selections from Liszt’s Christmas Tree Suite. Additionally, jazz and gospel singer Monika Wall will collaborate with Daniel for beloved Christmas classics. Dec. 23 — Come join us for an unforgettable Merry-achi Christmas dinner party at the Royal Canadian Legion (560 13th St. East) at 6:30 p.m. The night kicks off with a dinner served by Sabor Latino followed by Mariachi Latino Band with some lively tunes, adding a touch of Mexican flair to the Christmas spirit and DJ music. Dinner from 7 to 8 p.m. Please be on time. Music, dance floor and bar open from 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Bar only accepts cash or debit. General admission is $65; VIP seats $80. Dec. 25 — The Westman and Area Traditional Christmas Dinner will be held in the MNP Room at the Keystone Centre from noon to 6 p.m. No one should be alone at Christmas, so come down for a hearty meal with the fellowship of the community on Christmas Day.
