5:30 p.m. — The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba’s annual President’s Dinner will be held at the Imperial Ballroom at the Victoria Inn with recording artists Doc Walker. This annual gala is one of Brandon’s most prestigious formal evenings, developed in support of agriculture awareness. Cocktails at 5:30 p.m.; dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $120 or $960 (plus GST) for a table of eight and can be reserved by calling the Provincial Exhibition office at 204-726-3590.

7:30 p.m. — Kaleidoscope Concerts Series Neepawa presents an incredible evening of music with Gordie MacKeeman and his unique blend of folk, bluegrass and Celtic music at ArtsForward in Neepawa. 11:30 a.m. — Parkinsons Social Group is a newly formed support group for people living with Parkinsons, care partners, family and friends. It is an informal group that meets monthly at Aaltos Restaurant in the Canad Inns (1125 18th St.) for lunch. We have a different speaker each month. Our memberships have grown every month.

1 to 4 p.m. — Trail Teachings on the Full Moon will take place at the Brandon Riverbank (545 Conservation Dr.) Featuring full-moon teachings with knowledge keeper Debbie Huntinghawk — All Nations Sharing Circle; Men’s Resource Centre Drum Group (dock side of Riverbank Discovery Centre); Two-spirit teachings at the east picnic shelter; fresh fried bannock and soup at the east picnic shelter. Please dress for the weather. Free snowshoe and ski rentals for the winter trails available during the day. All are welcome.

2 to 4 p.m. — Canada stands with Ukraine! Today marks two years of resistance for Ukraine. Come walk in support and solidarity with Ukraine, supported by city council and Brandon University. A liturgy for Ukraine, soldiers and its long-suffering people at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church (927 Assiniboine Ave.) at 2:30 p.m. Then meet in front of Clark Hall/Original Building of Brandon University that faces 18th Street for a peaceful march to Brandon City Hall along Victoria Avenue followed by a rally. Feel free to bring Ukrainian flags, symbols and candles.

2 to 3 p.m. — Family Art Saturdays at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (710 Rosser Ave.) for children ages 3 to 6 and accompanying adults. 4 p.m. — The Coldest Night of the Year is a family-friendly walk in support of local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger and homelessness. Join us at Knox United Church at 4 p.m. for a welcome and to check in. Walk begins at 5 p.m. followed by a light meal at 6 p.m. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. No pets except for approved and trained service animals, please.

6 p.m. — Fenwick Lodge No. 158 is hosting a Whiskey Around the Globe tasting event at the Brandon Shrine Club (1110 McTavish Ave. East). 1 to 4 p.m. — Join members of the Brandon Scrabble Club for an afternoon of Scrabble, coffee and laughs at the Brandon Public Library. Scrabble boards are provided, and all levels of skill are welcome to attend. No registration is required.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Presently the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum is closed, but the Canteen Building is available for rent year-round, and you can shop the Tiger Moth Gift Shop by appointment by calling 204-727-2444. The museum will reopen on April 1, weather permitting. The museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial is open to the public from sunrise to sundown.

Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). Admission: $6 adults; $5 seniors and youth (6-18); family (up to two adults and three children) $12; children under five free. For more information, visit dalyhousemuseum.ca or call 204-727-1722.

Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Our Second World War vehicle exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art (2021 Victoria Ave. at Brandon University) — The Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art presents “Nostalgiacore,” an art exhibition with works by Brandon University’s fine arts faculty featuring: Lisa Wood, Kevin McKenzie, Lini Xu and Kevin Eichi deForest. The exhibition features paintings, ceramic sculptures, photography, drawings, sound installations and immersive installations. Hours: Thursdays to Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. until Feb. 18.

Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first, the AGSM boasts two art galleries, studios for youth and adult classes, a gift shop that supports more than 90 Manitoban artists and artisans. In the Community Gallery: “Young & Creative in Southwestern Manitoba,” until April 13. In the Main Gallery: Fake Picasso on now until March 23. Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 204-554-0023.

Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. On Saturday, we have a Show and Tell — “How to Dig Through the Past Without a Trowel: Effective Historical Research” with Carmen Kazakoff-Lane at 2 p.m. Interested in history? These talks are by donation, but space is limited so best to RSVP.

26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. We are now closed for the season and will open again in the spring of 2024.

March 1 — KidSport Manitoba’s For the Love of Sport presents Wildin’ Out Neon Party in the Grand Salon at the Victoria Inn (3550 Victoria Ave.) at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. with appetizers, martini bar and candy bar served. Live entertainment with comedian Kelly Taylor. Find your brightest colours to bring on the neon for this party. DJ/MC Joey Simms from Trident Music. March 2 — The Westman Scottish Association is hosting a Ceilidh at the Riverview Curling Club (420 Maryland Ave.) at 6 p.m. Step by step instructions on the line dancing; quiz and trivia; dance performances; pipers; accordion music and much more. Bar will be open and food will be available for purchase. Tickets are $15 and are available by messaging the Westman Scottish Association on Meta (Facebook).

March 2 — The Sportsplex Winter Fest is back! Join us at the Sportsplex (30 Knowlton Dr.) from noon to 4 p.m. for an afternoon filled with winter fun including sleigh rides, snow painting, live music with Choi Bolton, Katie MacDonald and Julianna Moore. March 2 — It’s Storytime with the Animals at the Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St.) at 2 p.m. Robin Stewart from the WMRL joins the BJ Hales Natural History Gallery for stories, crafts and the reveal of our new interactive animal exhibit. Free for all ages.

March 2 — Road Rebels Trivia Night/Cruisin’ Winter Style Social Evening will be held in the Don-Glen Salon at Seniors for Seniors (311 Park Ave. East) Doors open at 6 p.m.; trivia from 7-10 p.m. Register your team as there are a limited number of tables available. Maximum eight people per team. Cost is $15 per person, which includes entry to social. Cash bar and snacks from 6 p.m. to close. Social evening starts after trivia ends. March 2 — Join Alexander Tselyakov, Megumi Masaki, Dianna Neufeld and Daniel Tselyakov at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. for a performance showcasing the brilliance of the Brandon University School of Music’s newest Steinway Concert D grand piano. Revel in the magic of four to eight hands performing repertoire that celebrates the exquisite tones and colours of both our new Steinway Concert D pianos. Tickets are $20 for adults and seniors and are available at the door. BU students and Conservatory of Music students attend at no charge.

March 2 — The Brandon Wheat Kings host the Saskatoon Blades at Westoba Place at 7 p.m. Tickets available at the Keystone Centre box office.

March 2-3 — Westman Communications Group will host Westman Gaming Expo in the Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre at 9 a.m. Join us for a weekend filled with thrilling battles, strategic showdowns and non-stop gaming action! CK Sports Cards and I Want That Stuff will also have 60-plus tables of sports cards and memorabilia. As always, we will be subbing to @psacard and @fcg_canada on both days so make sure to bring your raw cards! Admission is $2; children 10 and under are free.

March 3 — Steppin’ Time Pre-school Dance Recital will take place at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium (205 20th St.) with performances at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Together with our company dancers, the pre-school and 5+ classes will hit the stage for an afternoon of dances. March 5-7 — Join us at the Brandon Curling Club for the 55+ Manitoba Games curling event. This event includes ice and stick curling. March 9 — Join us for a Brandon University Faculty Recital to kick-off this year’s Clarinetfest! March 16 — The Oak Lake and Area Lions Club invites you to A Night at the Races at the Oak Lake Community Hall for a fun-filled evening of pre-recorded horse racing and light horse betting. March 25-30 — The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, held annually during Manitoba’s March spring break, is a tourism highlight in Western Canada. The RMWF is one of Western Canada’s largest agricultural events and the largest annual event to be held in Brandon and only one of two fairs in Canada to receive Royal designation from Queen Elizabeth II. At the fair, you can expect to see world-class show jumping, heavy horse competitions, livestock sales and displays, a quality hands-on agriculture education program, live entertainers, more than 300 commercial and agricultural exhibits and much more.
