BRANDON UNIVERSITY

• Brandon University professors will join Mayor Jeff Fawcett for the Mayor’s Book Club on Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Brandon branch of the Western Manitoba Regional Library. They will lead a community discussion around “The Anxious Generation” by Jonathan Haidt. Email Programs@WMRL.ca to be part of this conversation about social media and its effects on developing minds.

• Terence McGonigle in BU’s department of biology will discuss eucalyptus in Australia and bryophytes in Canada in his Science Seminar Series talk on plant diversity on Friday. The talk will begin at 2:30 p.m. in Room 4-47 of the Brodie building and will also be available online. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for more information.

• The Bobcats women’s rugby team will host the University of Saskatchewan on Saturday. The match begins at 1 p.m. at John Reilly Field. The BU soccer teams wrap up their regular season on Sunday, visiting Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg.

Jazz pianist and composer Witness Matlou will present a suite of original music informed by his upbringing in South Africa’s townships on Saturday at 7 p.m., at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. This Brandon Chamber Players concert will also feature Jon Gordon on saxophone, Marika Galea on bass and Eric Platz on drums. Ticket information is available at BrandonChamberPlayers.ca.

• The Block ’N’ Roll volleyball tournament returns to the Healthy Living Centre on Nov. 29 and 30. The cost to register a team in the co-ed tournament is $250. Register at HealthyLivingCentre.ca.

• The ACSA is hosting a Halloween-themed dodgeball tournament on Oct. 26 that will take place in the gym of the Victoria Avenue East campus from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This event is open to all students and the community, and individuals must register in teams. Participants are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes, but facemasks or anything hanging off costumes are prohibited due to safety reasons. • The ACSA is hosting a workshop to build resilience and develop a plan for managing stress. These workshops are facilitated by Mireille Saurette. Participants will be able to: recognize their responses to stress, apply healthier responses, recognize and explore stressors, apply methods to deal with stressors.
