BRANDON UNIVERSITY
• The Brandon University Jazz Festival will take place from Thursday to Saturday, featuring internationally renowned musicians and concerts that are open to the community. Showcase concerts will take place on Thursday and Friday at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium, at 6:30 and 9:30 each evening. Several other concerts are planned throughout the event. Guest artists will include Queen Cora Coleman, who has played drums with both Prince and Beyoncé, as well as Juno nominees Shirantha Beddage and Erin Propp. Visit BUJazzFest.ca/concert-tickets for concert details and tickets.
• Parvin Ghafarian of the University of Northern British Columbia will be this week’s Science Seminar Series speaker. He will talk about weather measurement simulations in bodies of water with complicated topography during a talk that begins on Friday at 2:30 p.m., in Room 4-34 of the Brodie building. • Students who are hard at work during a critical time in the semester will have a safe place to study well into the night during the Long Night Against Procrastination, starting the evening of March 18. Running from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m., the event hosted by the John E. Robbins Library all offer food, study help and stress-busting activities for BU students.
• Col. Evelyn Kotzer, commander of 38 Canadian Brigade Group, will visit BU on March 19 for a conversation about the Army Reserve and how part-time citizen soldiers are helping Canada meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. The talk will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the John E. Robbins Library.

• The Cardboard Box Challenge takes place March 16 at our Victoria Avenue East campus. The Cardboard Box Challenge, presented by Assiniboine’s Early Childhood Education program, is an opportunity for early learning centres and members of the community to bring their children to the college and put their creativity, problem-solving and engineering skills to the test. Our goal is to provide cardboard boxes, tape, and open-ended materials to help the construction process. Find out more at assiniboine.net/events.
