Manitobans will be able to start booking their second COVID-19 vaccinations appointments as of Friday.
That announcement was made during a Wednesday morning vaccine technical briefing by Johanu Botha, the province’s vaccine implementation co-lead.
The province had originally announced that second doses would start to be booked no later than May 22. Friday is one day before that deadline.
Instead of taking an age-based approach to second doses, the province will prioritize people with certain health conditions.
Some of the health conditions that will be prioritized are:
• Those receiving hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis
• Liver cirrhosis or portal hypertension
• Severe heart failure,
• Certain cancers and people receiving certain cancer treatments
• People taking certain medications
• Organ transplant recipients or those booked to receive transplants
• Stem cell transplant or CAR-T therapy recipients from at least three months ago
• Down syndrome
• HIV
• Individuals receiving home care
• People receiving 24/7 Community Living disABILITY Services supports
When booking second dose appointments, it’s important to remember when the first dose was received and what kind of vaccine was received.
A second vaccine consent form will be required when attending second-dose appointments.
