• Assiniboine’s External Relations department has extended the deadline for nominations for the Excellence in Education Award, which is presented at the annual Advancement Dinner. The award is presented to a staff member at the college, who contributes to the exceptional learning experiences of students at Assiniboine. The extended deadline for nominations for the Excellence in Education award to March 31st.

• Join us for one of our free information sessions designed to give you the inside scoop on our college, our programs and life at Assiniboine! Register in advance and from the comfort of your own home, log in to learn what Assiniboine has to offer. Register at assiniboine.net/infosessions.

• Did you know? Assiniboine’s Indigenous Affairs team offers online cultural centre gatherings daily from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This virtual come and go event allows elders, students and staff to drop in and share in a time of fellowship and connection. • Assiniboine alumni and friends may consider nominating an instructor or staff member who they feel has had a positive impact on students for an Alumni Award. The nomination form can be found on the Assiniboine website at assiniboine.net/community/alumni/alumni-awards.

• The Assiniboine Students’ Association has a number of opportunities to participate in workshops and skill development sessions in the coming weeks. For more information and to check out the complete offerings, visit accstudents.com/events.

• The Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association AGM takes place this Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. For those interested in attending, pre-registration is required. You can visit accstudents.com/event. Please note: this meeting will be held virtually.

• The Assiniboine Early Learning Centre is fundraising for a nature-based playground through a monthly online 50/50. This fundraising draw is a way for community members to show their support for this project and to be involved in helping build a healthier future for children in the centre. BRANDON UNIVERSITY

• Brandon University will be closed for Louis Riel Day today. The winter study break will begin on Tuesday, with classes resuming on Feb. 28. Some events will still take place during the study break, though, such as a virtual mini open house on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Interested students can learn more about studying at BU, with information sessions by faculty in Health Studies, Science, Arts and Education. Sessions last one hour each and begin at 6 p.m. for Health Studies and 7 p.m. for Science on Tuesday. The Faculty of Arts will be featured at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by Education at 7 p.m. For more information, visit BrandonU.ca/Future-Students/Information-Program-Night.

• Métis Knowledge Keeper Verna Demontigny will be the presenter for a BU Teaching House event on Tuesday, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The event will keep the ideals of Louis Riel Day in place with stories of identity, kinship and relationship. The virtual event will include stories shared by students, staff, Indigenous Peoples’ Centre Knowledge Keepers and the community. All are invited to participate. • Master of Psychiatric Nursing student Bojana Vucenic will give a virtual talk on Wednesday as part of the Faculty of Health Studies and Centre for Critical Studies of Rural Mental Health Seminar Series. Vucenic will speak about retention of Generation Z nurses who work with patients with dementia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The talk will take place from noon to 1 p.m., and more information is available by emailing HerronR@BrandonU.ca.

• The Bobcat volleyball teams wrap up their regular season this weekend with key matches at the Healthy Living Centre. The BU women will host the University of Regina Cougars, with matches starting on Friday at 6 p.m., and Saturday at 5 p.m. The Bobcat men will take on the University of Manitoba Bisons at the Healthy Living Centre, with match times of 7:45 on Friday night and Saturday evening at 6:45. The BU women’s basketball team heads on the road this week to play the Cougars in Regina on Thursday and Friday.

• Do you know of BU alumni who have done great things since graduation? Nominate them for the 2022 Alumni Awards before April 1. Nominations are open for the Excellence in Teaching Award, the Distinguished Young Alumni Award, the Distinguished Alumni Award for Community Service, the Distinguished Alumni Award for Career Achievement, the Award for Excellent Service and the Wall of Fame Award.
