LAVAL – Stephanie Hill and Noemi Paquin each scored as Montreal Roses FC clinched a playoff berth with a 2-0 victory over Halifax Tides FC in Northern Super League action on Thursday.

Montreal (10-6-5) became the third team to clinch one of four post-season spots, after league-leading AFC Toronto and Ottawa Rapid FC.

The win also moved Montreal past Ottawa for second place in the league standings.

Hill put the Roses on the board in the 40th minute with a volley from a few yards outside of the box that skied over the reach of Halifax (3-13-4) goalkeeper Anika Toth.

In the 71st minute, Paquin took a sweet lead pass, cut past a defender and into the box and put a low shot past Toth to double Montreal’s lead.

Both teams will be back in action on Sept. 27. Montreal will host Calgary, while Halifax welcomes Vancouver.
