PERTH – The 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship will be held in Saint John, N.B., World Curling and Curling Canada said Wednesday in a joint announcement.
The 18-team competition is set for March 27-April 4, 2027, at TD Station, the federations said.
“The bid from Saint John was superb, and based on that community’s support of major events in the past, and support of the city of Saint John and province of New Brunswick, we’re confident that the 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship will be a major success on and off the ice,” Curling Canada chief executive officer Nolan Thiessen said in a statement.
Saint John previously hosted the world women’s playdowns in 2014. The city also served as host in 1999 when the men’s and women’s championships were a combined event.
“We are looking forward to returning for the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship in 2027,” said Eeva Roethlisberger, World Curling’s head of competitions. “Previous events hosted there have been a major success, and we are certain together we will produce a fantastic competition for the top men’s teams in the world.”
The winner of the Montana’s Brier will represent Canada at the competition. The 2026 world championship will begin March 27 in Ogden City, Utah.
Scotland’s Bruce Mouat won gold at last season’s playdowns in Moose Jaw, Sask. Canada’s Brad Jacobs took the bronze.
The 2026 BKT World Women’s Curling Championship will be held this March in Calgary. The 2027 host has yet to be announced.
Saint John has also hosted several major domestic curling events. They include the 1947 Brier, 1963 Canadian women’s championship and the Canadian mixed championship in 1971 and 1983.
TD Station, which seats around 6,300 in its hockey configuration, is the home of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League’s Saint John Sea Dogs.
