It’s Day 4 of competition at the Milan Cortina Olympics, where Canada picked up its third medal of the Games and first silver in the short-track mixed team relay.
Here are the latest developments. All times Eastern.

Canada’s women’s hockey team suffered its first loss of the Olympics, falling 5-0 to the United States in Group A play.
Hannah Bilka, with two goals, Caroline Harvey, Kirsten Simms and Laila Edwards scored for the U.S., while Aerin Frankel made 20 saves.
Canada was without captain Marie-Philip Poulin, who suffered a lower-body injury in a 5-1 win over Czechia on Monday.

Team Canada, without injured captain Marie-Philip Poulin, has been outshot 22-10 by the Americans.

The United States make it 3-0 on a power-play goal by Kirsten Simms.
Officials upheld the call after a video review determined the puck completely crossed the line.
Canada coach Troy Ryan then challenged for goaltender interference, but the challenge was denied, leaving Canada shorthanded again.

Canada is trailing the United States 2-0 after the first period of the women’s hockey game between the archrivals.
Caroline Harvey and Hannah Bilka scored for the U.S.
Both teams entered the game undefeated.

The women’s hockey match between archrivals Canada and the United States is underway in Milan.
Forward Brianne Jenner is Canada’s acting team captain with Marie-Philip Poulin out with a lower-body injury.
Poulin is listed as day-to-day.

Canadian figure skater Stephen Gogolev overcame a wardrobe malfunction and put in a solid skate in the men’s short program.
Gogolev scored 87.41 points for his gangster-inspired routine. The score was not as high as his impressive short program in the team event, but it put him in first place with several skaters to go.
The laces came out of one of Gogolev’s skates during the routine, but he managed not to get tripped up.

Sweden has picked up the first curling gold medal of the Games.
Siblings Rasmus and Isabella Wranaa scored two in the eighth end for a 6-5 win over Americans Korey Dropkin and Cory Thiesse.
Earlier, Italy beat Britain in the bronze-medal game.

1:21 p.m.
Canadian lugers Embyr-Lee Susko and Trinity Ellis, both of Vancouver, finished well off the podium in the women’s singles event at the Games.
Susko finished in 15th place with a time that was 3.177 seconds behind the leader, while Ellis placed 17th, 3.704 seconds behind.
Julia Taubitz of Germany emerged victorious at the event with a final time of just over three minutes and 30 seconds, with Latvia’s Elina Bota claiming silver and American Ashley Farquharson winning bronze.

Figure skater Deanna Stellato-Dudek has been medically cleared and will compete at the Milan Cortina Games.
The veteran skater struck her head on the ice while training in Quebec on Jan. 30, but the Canadian Olympic Committee and Skate Canada say that she has been cleared to compete at the Games alongside partner Maxime Deschamps.
The former world champions are expected to travel Wednesday and arrive in Italy Thursday, in time for Sunday’s individual pairs event on Sunday at Milano Ice Skating Arena.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said he and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed tonight’s Canada-U.S. women’s hockey game during a phone call this morning.
Carney said the call was primarily about the Gordie Howe International Bridge, but the Olympic matchup came up as well.
“It’s a big game today,” Carney said as he arrived for the weekly cabinet meeting on Parliament Hill. “And we’re going to win.”

Italy has won the mixed doubles curling bronze medal with a 5-3 win over Britain.
The 2022 Olympic champions cemented the win with a point in the eighth and final end.
Britain goes home empty-handed after entering the medal round with a leading 8-1 record.
The United States and Sweden play for gold later.

9:30 a.m.
Captain Marie-Philip Poulin has been ruled out of Canada’s women’s hockey preliminary-round game against the United States at the Milan Cortina Olympics with a lower-body injury.
Poulin was injured in Monday’s 5-1 win over Czechia.
The defending Olympic champion Canadians enter the game with a 2-0 record.

The powerhouse Americans have been held off the podium in the women’s alpine skiing team combined event.
Breezy Johnson skied the downhill portion and handed a slim lead to star skier Mikaela Shiffrin, who struggled to fourth in the slalom.
Shiffrin, the most successful World Cup racer of all time with a record 108 victories, has now gone seven straight Olympic races without a medal.
Ariane Raedler and Katharina Huber of Austria won gold in the new Olympic event.

Canada has won silver in the short-track speedskating mixed-team relay.
William Dandjinou, Kim Boutin, Félix Roussel and Courtney Sarault finished in two minutes 39.258 seconds behind host Italy and ahead of Belgium.
Dandjinou is competing in his first Olympics after winning three gold medals and a silver at the 2025 short-track world championships. Boutin picked up her fifth Olympic medal.
Canada is the reigning world champion in mixed relay, but finished off the podium at the 2022 Beijing Games after being disqualified.

Canada is through to the final of the mixed team relay event in short-track speedskating.
In the semifinal, the Canadians finished first in their group to advance with a time of two minutes, 39.607 seconds.
The team will skate for gold against Italy, China and Belgium.

Canada’s short-track speedskating team has advanced to the mixed team relay semifinal.
The Canadians finished first in their quarterfinal skate with a time of two minutes, 39.034 seconds — ahead of China, Belgium and Kazakhstan.
The two best teams in each of the three quarterfinals moved on, along with the two fastest third placed teams. Both the semifinal and final are set to take place over the next hour.

Canadians Julien Viel and Mikaël Kingsbury have qualified for the final in freestyle skiing men’s moguls.
The pair posted scores of 79.56 and 79.11, respectively, in the first qualification round behind Ikuma Horishima of Japan, who had a top score of 85.42.

It’s Day 4 of the Milan Cortina Olympics, with Canadians in action across several sports.
Four-time Canadian Olympian Mikaël Kingsbury, the most decorated freestyle skier of all time with 100 World Cup wins, is about to make his first appearance at these Games.
Canada’s freestyle ski team will hit the moguls for the preliminary round in Livigno. The 33-year-old Kingsbury, one of Canada’s opening ceremony flag-bearers, won silver, gold, and silver at the 2014, 2018, and 2022 Games, respectively.
Canada also has its sights set on its first gold medal of the Olympics, with the short-track speedskating team competing in the mixed relay event this morning. The mixed team short-track group, led by breakout star William Dandjinou, will skate against China, Belgium and Kazakhstan in one of three quarterfinal races. The two best teams in each race and the two fastest third-placed teams will qualify for the semifinal.
The defending champion Canadian women’s hockey team will face its first major test of the Games against the U.S. this afternoon.
