CALGARY – Joel Farabee scored twice, including his team-leading 15th goal, and had an assist to lead the Flames to a 5-4 NHL victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

Morgan Frost had a goal and two assists for Calgary (25-30-7) while Ryan Strome, in his Flames debut, and Blake Coleman had a goal and an assist apiece. Calgary snapped a four-game winless skid.

Seth Jarvis, who also had a pair of assists, Sean Walker, Alexander Nikishin and Andrei Svechnikov scored for Carolina (40-17-6), while Sebastian Aho had three assists. The Eastern Conference-leading Hurricanes lost in regulation time for just the second time in their last 16 (12-2-2).

Dustin Wolf made 25 stops to record the win.

At the other end, Brandon Bussi had 20 stops as his nine-game franchise record-tying win streak was halted. He’s 25-4-1.

In their first game without No. 1 centre Nazem Kadri — traded to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday — the Flames got off to an inauspicious start giving up a goal 44 seconds into the first period on the game’s first shot.

Calgary bounced back in the second with three unanswered goals to take the lead for good. Getting it started 19 seconds into the period was Strome on a beautiful set up from defenceman Olli Maatta, also making his Flames debut.

Strome was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks on Friday while Maatta came over from Utah in a trade on Wednesday that sent defenceman MacKenzie Weegar to the Mammoth.

TAKEAWAYS

Hurricanes: Defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere did not play after getting shaken up Friday in Edmonton. Walker’s goal extends his point-streak to five games (2-4-6).

Flames: Defenceman Zach Whitecloud (upper body) left the game in the first period and didn’t return … Forward Victor Olofsson, who came over in the Kadri deal, will join the team on its upcoming road trip.

KEY MOMENT

Two minutes into the third, Bussi came out of his net to play the puck, but had his clearing attempt intercepted by Farabee, who flung the puck toward the net. Bussi got back in time to make the save, but Coleman knocked in the rebound to make it 4-1.

KEY STAT

It was Strome’s first multi-point game since Dec. 7 when he had two assists against the Chicago Blackhawks.

UP NEXT

Hurricanes: Host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.

Flames: Visit the Washington Capitals on Monday.
