HALIFAX – Jordyn Rhodes and Julianne Vallerand scored second-half goals to lead Halifax Tides FC past Ottawa Rapid FC 3-1 on Saturday in the Northern Super League season opener for both women’s soccer sides.
Rhodes’ goal at the 78-minute mark put Halifax ahead 2-0 before Ottawa’s Nicola Golen scored two minutes later. But Vallerand restored the two-goal advantage at the 84-minute mark.
Addison Weichers had the other goal for Halifax. She opened the scoring in the contest at the 38-minute mark.
In the late game, Elyse Bennett scored a goal in each half as the visiting Montreal Roses defeated the Calgary Wild 2-0 at McMahon Stadium.
Bennett put the Roses ahead in the 37th minute, then doubled the lead four minutes into the second half. The Roses outshot the Wild 10-8 (6-5 on target) and had 53 per cent of the possession in the match.
