Canada’s Macklin Celebrini added another milestone to his standout 2025-26 season Thursday, earning International Ice Hockey Federation male player of the year honours.
The 20-year-old from North Vancouver, B.C., received 40.8 per cent of the vote from nearly 200 media members and IIHF officials, finishing ahead of American goaltender Connor Hellebuyck (20.4 per cent) and Finnish forward Sebastian Aho (14.3 per cent).
Celebrini helped Canada win silver at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, where he led the tournament with five goals and was named an all-star.
He also captained Canada to a fourth-place finish at May’s world championships in Switzerland, finishing second in tournament scoring while earning best forward honours.
In the NHL, Celebrini was fourth in league scoring with 115 points, the third-highest total by a teenager behind Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby.
American defender Caroline Harvey was named the IIHF’s female player of the year in June.
