The Purina Walk for Dog Guides hosted by the Brandon Lions Club took place on May 29, with all money raised from the walk providing dog guides at no cost to qualified applicants.
Dog Guides Canada has already provided their specially trained dog guides to more than 2,000 men, women and children from ages four to 88, all without any government funding.
The Brandon Lions Club hosts 10 major fundraising events annually, including a pancake breakfast for the residents of Lions Manor, a spring garage sale, hotdog barbecues at various grocery store locations, 50/50 tickets once a year, operating casino games for social events, delivering flowers for The BloomBox florists on special occasions, delivering phone books for MTS, supervising children’s activities at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair and hosting special dinners for the residents of Lions Manor.
The club celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2014, and is always looking for new members of any age. Contact Lions Manor at 204-727-4911 or Brandon Lions Club president Barb Hurd at 204-571-0620.
