“The sun will come out tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there’ll be sun! Just thinkin’ about tomorrow clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow … Til there’s none! When I’m stuck with a day that’s grey and lonely, I just stick out my chin and grin and say ‘Oh! The sun’ll come out tomorrow.’”

A few lines from the song that most everyone remembers! The song that takes me right back to my childhood and watching the little redheaded orphan giving a positive message in the midst of hard times.

Mecca Productions presented the popular and timeless musical to a full house on Nov. 28, 29 and two shows on Nov. 30 at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium.

I sent Lisa Vasconcelos a message asking her a few questions about the musical.

One of the questions I asked her was to mention something unexpected that happened that turned out amazing and she wrote, “we loved the new lines the writers added. Especially the mention of Manitoba (wink emoji).”

There is something so magical about being a part of musical theatre and with such a positive group of people. Being with people, in real time, face to face, creating a work of art together. Musical theatre brings people together and helps those who might otherwise be quite shy to break out of their shells.

I asked Lisa why she thinks this occurs and she wrote: “The process of creation involves vulnerability and sharing — two things that lead to friendship. The rehearsal process means folks who may be shy are so well rehearsed that they can stand on that foundation in their performance. Making music is a lot of fun and very rewarding. Lots of people say our together time is a great stress reliever. It is for me.”

“I love ‘Annie’ (because) it gives so many kids an opportunity to shine. The message and the music are also pretty amazing.”

Bravo to all of the actors, and stage crew. All of the cast performed incredibly well. It was a nostalgic and incredible feeling to watch a musical that I watched over and over as a child.

Make sure to get your tickets for “Spamalot” on March 12, 13 and 14, 2020. It is not a kids show but Lisa said, “laughter is a guarantee.” For those who have little ones, “Frozen Junior” is also coming up on April 16, 17 and 18, 2020!
