‘Tis the season to enjoy the company of friends, family and to decide if you need to make any changes for this upcoming year.

Embark Fitness kicked the new year off right with its fifth-annual Christmas get-together.

Approximately 28 people got “all dressed up” in their gym clothes and attended Embark Fitness, located in Brandon’s east end, on Dec. 13 for a group workout followed by a potluck.

I attended at the perfect time and was thankful people were easy-going with me as I snapped pictures of their beautiful, sweaty, red faces right after the workout.

Embark Fitness is celebrating its fifth year in January and will be offering membership specials, so keep an eye out for those in January. Not to mention, they are also launching a new nutrition and fitness program mid-January. The really cool thing about the programs they offer is that you don’t have to be local to join. The program will combine nutrition information, workouts and helpful tips. The program is designed so you can do the workouts in a gym or in the comfort of your own home because you only need a couple of dumbbells to complete the workouts.

I asked owner and personal trainer Carrie White what makes Embark unique from other gyms and she said: “We have a mix of all ages and abilities. Members are looking to become a fitter, healthier version of themselves. The environment is friendly, comfortable and non-intimidating. We have members who have been working out for years and others who have just begun. Everyone is supportive of each other. We know you by your first name. We have kids, parents and grandparents attend Embark Fitness.”

Embark Fitness offer classes for all ages (7 to 75+), as well as the option to work out on your own, or both. The gym is 24/7, so it can fit with your schedule, and there is also personal training available.

Carrie had this advice for people who may be intimidated to begin: “Over the years in the fitness industry, I have found that often the hardest part is walking through the door for that first workout. People feel nervous, sometimes self-conscious and worry that everyone will be looking at them. This feeling is not unique to you, almost everyone feels exactly the same way. I am here to say that you can walk in with your head held high. We will help you through that first workout and many more. You are only expected to do what you can do. We want people to become the best versions of themselves. We have a little motto, ‘stronger than yesterday.’”
