BUENOS AIRES – Canada lost by one run to host Argentina on Tuesday at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Americas Region Qualifier.
Set a victory target of 96 runs, the Canadians found themselves at 87 for eight after 19 overs. Krima Kapadia and Rabbjyot Rajput, the No. 9 and 10 batsmen, combined for seven runs before being run out one after the other on the final two balls in a last-ditch bid for the needed runs.
The last over was the difference with Argentina scoring 10 run at the end of its innings.
The Canadian women, who defeated the U.S. by nine runs in their opening match on Monday, won the toss and elected to field.
Opener Malena Lollo, named player of the match, led Argentina with 41 runs as the home side finished at 95 for four in its 20 overs. Vandana Mahajan was the pick of the Canadian bowlers with three wickets.
Canada lost two wickets with just six runs on the board. Vandana Mahajan led the way with 20 runs as the Canadian women kept chipping away at the victory total, only to fall just short at 94 all out in their 20 overs.
The four-team tournament — Brazil is also competing in the double round robin — will send one team to represent the region in the final stage of qualification, the 10-team ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2026.
