WUHAN – Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Brazilian partner Luisa Stefani advanced to the doubles semifinals of the Wuhan Open tennis tournament with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Mexico’s Giuliana Olmos and Estonia’s Ingrid Neel on Friday.
The top seeds had 22 unforced errors and faced nine break points in the match.
But they saved seven of those break points while converting three of the six break-point chances they had against Olmos and Neel.
Dabrowski and Stefani will face fifth seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez of the United States and Cristina Bucsa of Spain in Saturday’s semifinals at the WTA 1000 tournament.
Dabrowski and Stefani are coming off a 6-1, 6-2 upset of top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Zhang Shuai last week in the final of the China Open.
It was their fifth title of the season and their seventh as a team.
