Brooks Koepka is 1 back at the Byron Nelson, with Scottie Scheffler lurking in his hometown event

Schuyler Dixon, The Associated Press 5 minute read Thursday, May. 21, 2026

McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Scottie Scheffler won't be the wire-to-wire winner of his hometown CJ Cup Byron Nelson again this year.

For now, the world's top-ranked player is chasing a leaderboard that includes Brooks Koepka, the five-time major champion looking for his first victory since returning to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf.

Koepka shot an 8-under 63 on Thursday and trailed first-round leader Taylor Moore by one at the revamped TPC Craig Ranch, with Scheffler at 66 while playing with Koepka and Si Woo Kim, one of seven players at 64.

“I felt like I was getting lapped out there for a little bit,” said Scheffler, who led from the start of last year's Nelson and won by eight shots at 31 under while tying the tour's 72-hole scoring record at 253. “So I was fortunate to make a couple birdies late in the round and keep myself in the tournament.”

Hanska tops in 9-10 boys at MJT Tour event

1 minute read Monday, May. 18, 2026

The first event in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s 12-and-under Manitoba Mini Tour schedule took place on Saturday on at Kildonan Park Golf Course in Winnipeg, with a Westman golfer leading the way.

In the boys 9-10 division, Connor Hanska, 10, of Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation, carded a one-over-par 70 with three birdies and an eagle on a windy day to earn the victory.

Hanska’s round was good enough to qualify him for the FCG World Championship and MJT Mini Tour National Championship, and shortlist him for the Uswing Mojing Jr. World Golf Championship.

The other Westman golfer to place was eight-year-old Makayla McLeod of Brandon, who was second in the girls 9-10 division with a round of 111.

Aaron Rai runs away with the PGA Championship, first English-born winner in more than a century

Doug Ferguson, The Associated Press 6 minute read Tuesday, May. 19, 2026

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (AP) — Aaron Rai was just another name among a dozen others who had reason to believe the PGA Championship was theirs for the taking Sunday at tough Aronimink.

There was Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele, with 10 majors among them, all ready to seize the moment on a stage that was unfamiliar to Rai.

Justin Thomas was the clubhouse leader for nearly four hours after a 65 before the course turned hard under a hot sun.

What followed was a master class from golf's newest major champion.

Lottie Woad wins Kroger Queen City Championship for 2nd LPGA Tour title

The Associated Press 3 minute read Sunday, May. 17, 2026

CINCINNATI (AP) — Lottie Woad held off Haeran Ryu on a gusty Sunday afternoon at Maketewah Country Club in the Kroger Queen City Championship.

Three strokes ahead of playing partner Amanda Doherty and four ahead of Ryu entering the round, Woad closed with a 1-under 69 for a two-stroke victory. The 22-year-old English player finished at 12-under 268.

“I just played pretty good tee-to-green,” Woad said. “I hit a lot greens, hit a lot of fairways. And it’s pretty windy out there, so I think that was the key, obviously, to having the lead.”

Ryu had a double bogey on the par-4 13th in a 67. She played first nine in 5-under 30.

Woad takes Kroger Queen City lead, leaving Korda 9 shots back in bid for 3rd straight win

The Associated Press 2 minute read Saturday, May. 16, 2026

CINCINNATI (AP) — Lottie Woad left Nelly Korda and everyone else behind on a rainy and breezy Saturday in the Kroger Queen City Championship.

Woad shot a 5-under 65 — a day after a 64 — to get to 11-under 199 and take a three-stroke lead over Amanda Doherty into the final round.

Play was delayed for about 2 1/2 hours in the morning at Maketewah Country Club, the first-year venue that features par-3 closing holes on each nine.

Korda was nine shots back in a tie for 19th after a 2-over 72 in her bid for a third straight victory. She was in the final group in all six of her previous starts this year, winning The Chevron Championship and Riviera Maya Open in the last two.

Alex Smalley grabs a 2-shot lead in a PGA Championship that’s up for grabs

Doug Ferguson, The Associated Press 6 minute read Saturday, May. 16, 2026

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (AP) — Alex Smalley kept his composure amid pure chaos Saturday in the PGA Championship, when he vanished from the leaderboard with a shaky start and when he surged back in front with sublime shots along the back nine at Aronimink Golf Club.

His voice was calm and steady after signing for a 2-under 68 for a two-shot lead. He recognizes the stakes and the stage for someone who has yet to win on tour.

“I’m trying to downplay that as much as I possibly can just to make it seem like any other golf tournament, because essentially that’s all it really is,” Smalley said.

One look at the leaderboard would illustrate this PGA Championship is wildly different. Fourteen players had at least a share of the lead at some point Saturday. There was a seven-way tie for the lead with an hour left in the third round until Smalley's big finish.

Rory McIlroy surges into PGA Championship contention with a 66 at Aronimink

Dan Gelston, The Associated Press 5 minute read Saturday, May. 16, 2026

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (AP) — Rory McIlroy smashed his drive on the 397-yard sixth hole and landed a beauty on the green to the delight of a roaring Aronimink crowd.

He made a birdie and kept a second straight major victory firmly in sight on a day in which several players made big moves up the leaderboard in more favourable conditions.

The pin placements, the course, nothing bothered McIlroy at Aronimink as he charged back from 105th at the end of Round 1 of the PGA Championship all the way to a share of the lead until he bogeyed 17, finishing at 3 under Saturday, a day after he complained about the setup at Aronimink Golf Club.

"I feel like I still did enough to think I have a chance going into tomorrow," McIlroy said.

Scheffler’s putter goes cold, forcing big comeback for shot at 2nd straight PGA Championship

Scheffler’s putter goes cold, forcing big comeback for shot at 2nd straight PGA Championship

Dan Gelston, The Associated Press 4 minute read Saturday, May. 16, 2026

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler walked off Aronimink with his putter still in the bag, though the defending PGA Championship winner might not have been blamed had he chucked the club into the water.

His putter failed him, and cost Scheffler a major opportunity in a tournament where no standout has emerged and led to a bunched leaderboard through three rounds.

Scheffler will still be in the mix in the final round — 14 players had at least a share of the lead at some point — yet the short game failures only stretched his odds at pulling out another PGA.

A four-time major winner, Scheffler missed six putts inside 10 feet, four of them for birdie. But he made a 9-foot bogey putt on 18 for a 71.

Ko and Doherty lead in Cincinnati, with Korda 3 back in bid for 3rd straight win

The Associated Press 3 minute read Friday, May. 15, 2026

CINCINNATI (AP) — Jin Young Ko and Amanda Doherty each shot 4-under 66 on Friday to share the second-round lead in the Kroger Queen City Championship, with Nelly Korda three shots back in her bid for a third straight victory.

Korda had two late birdies in a 67 in the morning session at Maketewah Country Club. She won The Chevron Championship for her third major, then followed with a victory in Mexico before taking last week off.

“There have definitely been some loose shots,” Korda said. “Not really happy with the way I’m hitting it right now, but overall, I mean, I’m not complaining with the position I’m in. Hopefully, I can go figure something out again on the range after today.”

Ko had a bogey-free round in the morning to reach 7-under 133 on the first-year venue. The 30-year-old South Korean player has 15 LPGA Tour victories, winning two majors in 2019.

The PGA Championship has the biggest logjam at a major in 24 years.

Doug Ferguson, The Associated Press 6 minute read Friday, May. 15, 2026

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (AP) — Not many players imagined Aronimink Golf Club and its wild, wavy greens would be so tough on scoring at the PGA Championship. Even fewer would have predicted Alex Smalley and Maverick McNealy to be atop the leaderboard Friday.

What to expect the rest of the weekend? Pretty much anything.

“Anyone who makes the cut, they’ve got to feel they have a shot in the tournament,” said Rory McIlroy, who found himself only five shots behind with 29 players — including Scottie Scheffler and six other major champions — ahead of him.

Two long days at Aronimink produced the highest 36-hole score to par to lead the PGA Championship in 14 years. The 15 players separated by two shots made it the biggest logjam going into a weekend at a major since 2002.

Scottie Scheffler part of 7-way tie for the lead at PGA Championship

Doug Ferguson, The Associated Press 6 minute read Thursday, May. 14, 2026

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (AP) — The biggest logjam in 57 years after the opening round of a major championship still had one name that stood out above the rest: Scottie Scheffler handled everything Aronimink threw his way Thursday in the PGA Championship.

Scheffler took advantage of two long birdie putts and one big break on the 17th hole for a 3-under 67 to share the lead with six other players — former PGA champion Martin Kaymer perhaps the biggest surprise — on a tough day in the Philadelphia suburbs.

It was the 13th round in the majors that Scheffler has had at least a share of the lead, and remarkably the first time after the opening round.

Joining them at 67 were Aldrich Potgieter, Stephan Jaeger, Min Woo Lee, Ryo Hisatsune and Alex Smalley. The seven-way tie was the largest since nine players shared the lead in the 1969 PGA Championship at NCR Country Club in Dayton, Ohio.

Chella Choi part of 3-way for lead on LPGA Tour with Korda 3 shots behind

The Associated Press 3 minute read Thursday, May. 14, 2026

CINCINNATI (AP) — Chella Choi bogeyed her final two holes Thursday that blemished an otherwise flawless round, giving her a 4-under 66 to fall into a three-way share of the lead with Rio Takeda and Ina Yoon in the Kroger Queen City Championship.

Nelly Korda had 15 pars in her round of 1-under 69 in her bid to win a third straight tournament. Korda won The Chevron Championship for her third major and the following week in Mexico before taking off last week.

Jeeno Thitikul, who won last week in the Mizuho Americas Open, and Maude-Aimée LeBlanc, of Sherbrooke, Que., also had a 69. It was the same score as Korda achieved far differently.

Korda had two birdies against one bogey at Maketewah Country Club, in its first year hosting the LPGA Tour event. Thitikul had only five pars — seven birdies and six bogeys.

TEEING OFF: Slate to test game at match play qualifier

Thomas Friesen 5 minute read Yesterday at 11:36 PM CDT

Nolan Slate has always seen golf as an outlet — something to do during time away from competition.

But now that he’s a few years removed from high-level team sports, he realized it can be much more.

Slate is teeing it up today in the Golf Manitoba match play qualifier at Scotswood Links in Elm Creek.

“Now that I’m missing that competitive nature from my life, it’s a good way to get back into it,” Slate said.

South Korea’s Si Woo Kim flirts with historic round at Byron Nelson, posts 60

Schuyler Dixon, The Associated Press 5 minute read Yesterday at 7:30 PM CDT

McKINNEY, Texas (AP) — Jordan Spieth could only watch a year ago as good buddy Scottie Scheffler became the first of the two to win the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, the hometown event they both cherish.

Spieth is giving himself a chance to answer, although Si Woo Kim's flirtation with history while settling for a 60 left the three-time major winner with plenty of work to do.

Kim was in position for the 16th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history on Friday before a bogey on the final hole left him at 11 under for the day and 18-under 124 through 36 holes. Scheffler was among the players five shots behind the 30-year-old South Korean.

Spieth started his back nine — the front side of TPC Craig Ranch — with six consecutive birdies on the way to a 9-under 62 and was 12 under.

Snedeker wins Myrtle Beach Classic for first PGA Tour title in nearly 8 years

The Associated Press 4 minute read Sunday, May. 10, 2026

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Brandt Snedeker poured in the birdies on the back nine and closed with a 5-under 66 to win the Myrtle Beach Classic on Sunday for his first PGA Tour title in nearly eight years, earning a surprising spot in the PGA Championship.

And now the Presidents Cup captain will get a closer look at his American players the rest of the year. The victory should get him into high-profile tournaments the 45-year-old Snedeker might not have been expecting.

Snedeker drove into the right trees on the 18th hole at Dunes Golf and Beach Club, pitched out to the fairway and two-putted from 30 feet for bogey.

“I feel amazing,” said Snedeker, whose last win was the Wyndham Championship in 2018. “I feel so lucky to still be out here still doing what I love to do. To have a chance to win a golf tournament at my age and to be able to pull it out is something super special. I’m just so pumped.”
