Adam Schenk survives raging wind in Bermuda to win first PGA Tour title

The Associated Press 4 minute read Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025

SOUTHAMPTON, Bermuda (AP) — Adam Schenk finally won when he least expected it, closing with an even-par 71 in raging wind Sunday to hold on for a one-shot victory in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in his 243rd start on the PGA Tour.

Schenk was two tournaments away from having to return to Q-school at No. 134 in the FedEx Cup. And then he handled some of the toughest conditions he ever faced, making one birdie and four crucial par saves in gusts that topped 30 m.p.h.

The last one was as difficult as any. His approach to the par-4 18th at Port Royal went just over the green as Schenk clung to a one-shot lead. He chose putter to roll through about 6 feet of fringe because of the tight lie, and the wind pushed it to about 5 feet short of the hole.

He gave that winning putt a light touch, relieved when it found the centre of the cup to hold off Chandler Phillip, who also shot 71.

Linn Grant breezes to her second LPGA title at The Annika

Doug Ferguson, The Associated Press 4 minute read Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025

BELLEAIR, Fla. (AP) — Linn Grant of Sweden had so much control of her game that she played 52 consecutive holes without a bogey, a streak that ended on the final hole Sunday when it no longer mattered. She closed with a 5-under 65 for a three shot victory over Jennifer Kupcho in The Annika.

It was Grant's second LPGA title, and the second time she received a trophy from Swedish great and tournament host Annika Sorenstam. Grant won the Scandinavian Mixed in Sweden when Sorenstam and Henrik Stenson were co-hosts.

“You made this course look easy. It's not easy,” Sorenstam told her on the 18th green.

It must have felt that way to Grant, who was never under much stress. She finished at 19-under 261 and had a chance to set the tournament record until a bogey on the final hole, her first one since her opening hole Friday.

SOUTHAMPTON, Bermuda (AP) — Adam Schenk played bogey-free in strong wind Saturday for a 4-under 67, giving him a share of the lead with Braden Thornberry in what has become a tense chase for a PGA Tour card at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

Thornberry, a PGA Tour rookie who won the NCAA title at Mississippi eight years ago, shot a 69 to join Schenk at 12-under 201 with hardly any margin for error going into the final round.

Schenk and Thornberry are among 10 players from the top 11 on the leaderboard who arrived in Bermuda outside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup with time running out. The RSM Classic at Sea Island next week ends the season, the first one that offers cards to the top 100 instead of the top 125.

Schenk is at No. 134 and is running out of options. But he began making minor adjustments in his game the last few months and watched it pay off in a timely way at Port Royal.

BELLEAIR, Fla. (AP) — Linn Grant rolled in a pair of 15-foot putts among her five birdies that carried her to a 5-under 65 on Saturday for a one-shot lead in The Annika as she tries to extend her streak to six years with at least one win worldwide.

Grant missed only one green and two fairways at Pelican Golf Club, picking up her last birdie when she got up-and-down from a greenside bunker on the par-5 14th.

She was at 14-under 196, one shot ahead of Jennifer Kupcho, who also played bogey free on a pristine afternoon in the Tampa Bay area.

Nataliya Guseva of Russia made all seven of her birdies over the final 10 holes for a 63 that left her two shots behind along with Evian Championship winner Grace Kim (68).

Adam Hadwin holds onto the lead in the windy Butterfield Bermuda Championship

The Associated Press 3 minute read Friday, Nov. 14, 2025

SOUTHAMPTON, Bermuda (AP) — Canada's Adam Hadwin held onto the lead Friday in the windy Butterfield Bermuda Championship in a late bid to retain full PGA Tour playing privileges, shooting a 5-under 66 at Port Royal to take a one-shot advantage into the weekend.

Hadwin is 147th in the FedEx Cup standings, with the top 100 next week after the RSM Classic keeping their tour cards for next year. The 38-year-old from Abbotsford, B.C., a PGA Tour winner and two-time Presidents Cup player, missed the FedEx Cup playoffs for the first time in his tour career.

Hadwin had an 11-under 131 total after opening with a 65 on Thursday.

“A little bit more scrambly than yesterday, didn’t quite hit it as well,” Hadwin said. “A little off early. ... Just a little off. Didn’t quite have the same feel as I did yesterday, but scrambled really well. Short game, putting, made a bunch of putts today.”

BELLEAIR, Fla. (AP) — Linn Grant shot a 7-under 63 on Friday for a share of the lead with Grace Kim in The Annika. Defending champion Nelly Korda made a big move with a 63 of her own, while Kai Trump improved by eight strokes and still finished a distant last.

“Very, very solid. I hit some really good shots,” said Grant, the Swede who won the 2023 Dana Open for her lone LPGA Tour title. “Tee to green today was very good. I felt like I played similar yesterday but I just couldn’t get the putts to go in, and today a lot of them went in.”

Kim had a 66 to join Grant at 9-under 131 at Pelican Golf Club. Kim won the Evian Championship in France in July for her first major title and helped Australia win the recent International Crown.

“I just kind of kept my mojo going,” Kim said.” Just hit lots of fairways and tried to make a lot of putts. It helped probably I hit a few more close today, making more easier birdies. I guess, just stayed in my lane really.”

Adam Hadwin leads in Bermuda in last-ditch bid to keep his PGA Tour card

The Associated Press 2 minute read Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025

SOUTHAMPTON, Bermuda (AP) — Adam Hadwin got off the start he needed in his bid to retain full PGA Tour playing privileges, shooting a 6-under 65 in windy conditions on Thursday in the first round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, which was not completed because of darkness.

Hadwin entered the week at No. 147 in the FedEx Cup standings; the top 100 after next week's RSM Classic keep their tour cards next year. He led Takumi Kanaya by one shot. Braden Thornberry was also 5 under with two holes to play at Port Royal.

The 38-year-old Hadwin, a two-time Presidents Cup player from Abbotsford, B.C., had never missed the FedEx Cup playoffs in a decade on tour before this year.

“A bit of the shock to the ego, not gonna lie,” Hadwin said. "It might have hindered me a little bit through the season as I continued to struggle a little bit. I reached a point, though probably too late, probably July, August where I kind of accepted where I was at, just needed to battle through.

BELLEAIR, Fla. (AP) — Haeran Ryu shot a 6-under 64 on Thursday to take the first-round lead in The Annika, with teen amateur Kai Trump last in the 108-player field after an 83 in her LPGA Tour debut.

Ryu had four straight birdies on Nos. 4-7 on her back nine in breezy conditions at Pelican Golf Club. The South Korean player won the Black Desert Championship in Utah in May for her third career LPGA Tour title.

“My shot is good and putter is good and everything,” Ryu said. “I’m so happy to make some a lot of birdies.”

Trump is the granddaughter of President Donald Trump. Playing on a sponsor exemption, the high school senior bogeyed the first four holes and finished with nine bogeys and two double bogeys.

Ben Griffin wins in Mexico for 3rd PGA Tour title of the year

The Associated Press 4 minute read Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025

LOS CABOS, Mexico (AP) — Ben Griffin avoided the mistakes that slowed his two challengers Sunday and rolled in three long birdie putts for a 9-under 63 to win the World Wide Technology Championship for his third PGA Tour title of the season.

Griffin two-putted for birdie on the par-5 18th at El Cardonal at Diamante for a two-shot victory. He joined Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy as the only players with at least three wins, with one of those for Griffin a team event in New Orleans.

Griffin, playing for the second time since his Ryder Cup debut, ran off five straight birdies starting at No. 8. That included a 40-foot putt on the par-3 11th to tie the lead, a 25-foot putt on the 12th for his first lead and a 25-foot putt on the par-3 16th that all but sealed it.

He made birdie on all four of the par 3s.

Nasa Hataoka wins in a playoff to take the rain-shortened LPGA Toto Japan Classic

The Associated Press 2 minute read Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025

OTSU, Japan (AP) — Nasa Hataoka won a playoff Sunday to take the LPGA's Toto Japan Classic after the final 18 holes were washed out by all-day rain and what officials termed “unplayable course conditions.”

Hataoka and fellow Japanese golfer Yuna Araki shared the lead on Saturday after 54 holes at 15-under 201 at the Seta Golf Club in western Japan.

After rain wiped out regulation play on Sunday, Hataoka prevailed on the first playoff hole to claim the title in an improvised finish and break the tie. It was her seventh title on the LPGA Tour.

Hataoka shared the lead in each of the first three rounds, with different golfers each time.

Three more Japanese players were just off the pace going into Sunday's final round. Miyu Yamashita, who won the Maybank Championship in Malaysia last week, carded a 68 and was one stroke behind. She was followed by Shuri Sakuma (69), who is three back, and Ai Suzuki (70), four off the lead.

LOS CABOS, Mexico (AP) — Garrick Higgo matched the El Cardonal at Diamante course record with an 11-under 61 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead over Carson Young into the final round of the World Wide Technology Championship.

Already a winner this season, Higgo chipped in for eagle on the par-5 first, parred the second and followed with five straight birdies in a 7-under 29 on the front nine. The 26-year-old left-hander from South Africa added four birdies on the back, the last on the par-5 18th to get to 22-under 194.

“Hit it great, made a lot of good putts and chipped in once,” Higgo said. “Just everything was really solid and took advantage of the opportunities that I had.”

Higgo had the lowest score of his PGA Tour career and became the sixth player to shoot 61 on the course.

Matti Schmid takes the lead in Mexico with a 63

The Associated Press 4 minute read Friday, Nov. 7, 2025

LOS CABOS, Mexico (AP) — Matti Schmid rolled in a 30-foot eagle putt with about 6 feet of break during a six-hole stretch he played in 6-under par that carried the German to a 9-under 63 and a one-shot lead Friday in the World Wide Technology Championship.

Nick Dunlap, who tied the course record of 61 in the opening round, was keeping pace and pulled one shot ahead of Schmid until a tee shot out of play on his 16th hole, the par-4 seventh, that led to double bogey. He closed with two pars for a 67 and was one shot behind.

Sami Valimaki of Finland, who also shot a 61 in the first round, birdied three of his last five holes for a 67 to join Dunlap a shot behind at El Cardonal at Diamante.

Only three tournaments, including this one on the southern tip of Baja California, remain this season. The top 100 in the FedEx Cup — down from 125 in previous years — retain full PGA Tour cards for next season.

Nick Dunlap, Sami Valimaki tie course record at 61, share lead in Mexico

The Associated Press 4 minute read Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025

LOS CABOS, Mexico (AP) — Nick Dunlap turned a tough lie into an chip-in eagle on his final hole Thursday to tie the course record with an 11-under 61, only for Sami Valimaki to join him about 30 minutes later on a day of low scoring in the World Wide Technology Championship.

Both were desperate for some good results, particularly Valimaki. While the 27-year-old from Finland made a late push to secure his European tour card with a runner-up finish in Switzerland, he came to El Cardonal at Diamante at No. 103 in the FedEx Cup.

Only the top 100 keep full status for 2026, and only three tournaments are left.

“It's not the best pressure, but it's how it is,” Valimaki said. “At least I made my card back in Europe so at least I have something over there, so I feel like that gives you a little extra freedom. Of course, you want to play here. Just have to play good these last three.”

Miyu Yamashita wins LPGA Maybank Championship after three-way playoff

The Associated Press 2 minute read Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Women's British Open winner Miyu Yamashita of Japan has won the LPGA's Maybank Championship in a three-way playoff Sunday for her second career title in only her first full year on the tour.

The 24-year-old golfer sealed victory with a birdie on the first playoff hole, while three-round leader Hye-Jin Choi of South Korea and Australia’s Hannah Green could only manage pars. The win adds the Maybank title to Yamashita’s maiden major triumph in August.

The Japanese player carded the day's equal lowest round of 65 to swiftly climb up a congested leaderboard to 18-under 270 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country club course.

Choi, who began the final round with a four-stroke lead, struggled to convert key putts as her advantage slipped away.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Hye-Jin Choi tapped in for a birdie after missing a 20-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole to give her a 6-under 66 Friday and a five-stroke lead after two rounds of the LPGA Tour's Maybank Championship.

Choi, who played on the South Korea team in last week's International Crown, had a 36-hole total of 14-under 130 on the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country club course. She started the day with a one-stroke lead and it marked the first time in her career that she has led after the first two rounds.

The 26-year-old Choi is winless on the LPGA Tour but has 28 career top-10 finishes. She placed second at the 2017 U.S. Women's Open as a 17-year-old amateur.

Choi tried to remain in a positive frame of mind despite a bogey on her first hole.
