Coughlin takes 2-shot lead over Korda into Aramco Championship final round

Mark Anderson, The Associated Press 4 minute read Saturday, Apr. 4, 2026

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Lauren Coughlin threatened for two days to run away with the Aramco Championship, but with hilly Shadow Creek living up to its reputation as course in which pars are good scores, she had to work hard for her two-shot lead going into the final round Sunday.

Coughlin shot a 1-over 73 on Saturday, and her 7-under score for the tournament was just one of five in red figures.

“This golf course is really, really hard, especially if you get in the wrong spot,” Coughlin said. “I felt like I did a pretty good job today of at least getting in spots, and if did get a little out, making sure I walked away with no worse than bogey.”

Nelly Korda birdied her final two holes to shoot a 69 to move to 5 under and in second place, setting up a final pairing of friendly rivals.

MacIntyre leads as storm-delayed Texas Open heads for marathon finish

The Associated Press 2 minute read Saturday, Apr. 4, 2026

Robert MacIntyre made one birdie in six holes and was leading by two shots Saturday in the Texas Open when storms halted play for just over five hours until the PGA Tour decided to suspend the third round for the remainder of the day.

That sets up a marathon finish Sunday in the final event before the Masters, with some players having to go 30 holes to finish the tournament. Groups will stay together the rest of the way.

MacIntyre was at 15-under par at the TPC San Antonio. Ludvig Aberg had three birdies in six holes playing alongside MacIntyre to reach 13 under.

No one played more than 14 holes of the third round. That included Matt Wallace, who was 7 under for the round through 14 holes and within four shots of the lead. Marco Penge, who makes his Augusta National debut next week, shot 30 on the front nine and was at 10 under through 11 holes.

MacIntyre has big finish, leads by four shots in Texas Open

The Canadian Press 3 minute read Friday, Apr. 3, 2026

SAN ANTONIO - Robert MacIntyre added the Valero Texas Open this year to be sharp for the Masters, and he looked every bit of that Friday with four birdies in his final five holes for an 8-under 64 and a four-shot lead over Ryder Cup teammate Ludvig Aberg.

MacIntyre felt comfortable with his swing from start, taking advantage of a back nine that included a hybrid that rolled out to eight feet for eagle on the par-5 14th.

What made the difference was his finish, with all four of the Scot’s birdies from 10 feet or closer.

He was in the same group as Aberg, whose 67 included holing out with a wedge from 120 yards for eagle on the par-4 sixth. The Swede’s only disappointing was missing the fairway on his final hole at No. 9 and three-putting from 100 feet.

Lauren Coughlin surges through gusty round for 5-shot lead at Shadow Creek

Mark Anderson, The Associated Press 3 minute read Friday, Apr. 3, 2026

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Lauren Coughlin continued her strong play at Shadow Creek even in windy conditions Friday that played havoc with the second-round scores at the Aramco Championship to shoot a 3-under 69 and open a five-shot lead.

Coughlin was 8 under. Hyo Joo Kim kept alive her hopes for a third straight LPGA Tour tournament victory, shooting 73 to match Leona Maguire (71) at 3 under.

Coughlin entered the day in a three-way tie for the lead after opening with a 67, but now has created clear separation. She nearly won here last year when it was a match-play event before falling to Madelene Sagstrom in the final pairing.

Now Coughlin is close again. Even with a sizable lead, though, she isn't ready to celebrate.

Lauren Coughlin knows Shadow Creek and it helps her to 3-way share of the lead on LPGA

The Associated Press 3 minute read Thursday, Apr. 2, 2026

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — Lauren Coughlin showed her familiarity with Shadow Creek by opening with a 5-under 67, putting her in a three-way tie for the lead Thursday with Nasa Hataoka and Women's British Open champion Miyu Yamashita in the Aramco Championship.

Coughlin played 127 holes last year at Shadow Creek when the tournament was match play, with every match going at least the distance. She wound up as the runner-up to Madelene Sagstrom.

The Aramco Championship is co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour, which has leaned on Saudi Arabia’s state oil company to sponsor the Aramco series that often attracts LPGA players wherever it plays around the world. The total purse this week is $4 million and the tournament shifted to stroke play.

“I feel like I know this place really well. Been in a lot of the places that you don’t want to be, so I feel like ... I just know the spots that I need to land it to a lot of the pins, where to miss if you have to,” said Coughlin, who didn't drop a shot until her final hole on No. 9.

Hubbard’s bold finish gives him a 1-shot lead in Texas Open

The Associated Press 5 minute read Thursday, Apr. 2, 2026

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Mark Hubbard was bold all the way to the end, taking on a creek at the par-5 18th and converting his sixth birdie over his final eight holes Thursday to post a 7-under 65 at dark for one-shot lead in the storm-delayed opening round at the Valero Texas.

Hubbard broke out of six-way tie for the lead that included Tony Finau, among dozens of players hopeful of a win to get into the Masters next week.

He was in the middle of the pack when Hubbard began his remarkable finishing kick on the Oaks course at the TPC San Antonio. He made a 25-foot birdie putt sandwiched between a pair of birdies from the 6-foot range. He got up-and-down on the par-5 14th for a fourth straight birdie.

He also hit it tight to 6 feet for birdie on the par-3 16th. And moments before the horn sounded to stop play, Hubbard drilled a fairway metal from the rough over the winding creek in front of the green about 30 yards short of the flag. He pitched to 3 feet for his last birdie.

PHOENIX - PHOENIX (AP) — Hyo Joo Kim beat Nelly Korda for the second straight week, pulling away around the turn Sunday and closing with a 3-under 69 for a two-shot victory in the Ford Championship.

Kim was poised to break the LPGA Tour’s scoring record for 72 holes until one mistake led to a double bogey on the eighth hole and allowed Korda to pull within one shot. But the American missed a pair of short putts, Kim made an 18-inch birdie and the lead was back to four shots.

Korda never got any closer until the tournament was out of reach, finishing eagle-birdie for a 67.

Kim, who also won the Ford Championship last year, now has back-to-back wins for the first time in her career, both against Korda.

Gary Woodland wins Houston Open for first PGA Tour title since brain surgery

The Associated Press 5 minute read Sunday, Mar. 29, 2026

HOUSTON (AP) — Gary Woodland won the Houston Open on Sunday, an emotional moment that seemed so improbable 30 months ago when he had brain surgery, and even two weeks ago when he opened up about his frightening struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Woodland looked better than ever at Memorial Park, taking a one-shot lead into the final round and stretching it to seven shots until coasting home to a trophy that felt as big as his U.S. Open title at Pebble Beach in 2019.

He closed with a 3-under 67 to win by five shots over Nicolai Hojgaard. The gallery paused chanting his name so Woodland could roll in a five-foot par putt. He stretched both arms, exhaled and looked to the blue sky before his tears began pouring.

“We play an individual sport out here, but I wasn't alone today,” Woodland said, his voice quivering with emotion. “Anyone struggling with something, I hope they see me and don't give up. Just keep fighting.”

Hyo Joo Kim sets 54-hole LPGA record, builds 4-shot lead over Korda in Ford Championship

The Associated Press 3 minute read Saturday, Mar. 28, 2026

PHOENIX (AP) — Hyo Joo Kim blew past Nelly Korda and right into the LPGA record book Saturday with her second score this week of 11-under 61, giving her the lowest 54-hole score in LPGA history and a four-shot lead in the Ford Championship.

Kim had seven consecutive one-putt greens, including her torrid start to the back nine on the Cattail course at Whirlwind Golf Club when she went birdie-birdie-eagle-birdie as she started to pull away.

Even her bad shots turned out good. On the par-4 16th, the 30-year-old South Korean looked away in disgust when she pulled her approach, only for the ball to bounce right and take the slope down to seven feet for yet another birdie.

She had a two-putt birdie on the 17th, and her par on the 18th put her at 25-under 191, breaking by one shot the 54-hole record previous shared by four players.

HOUSTON (AP) — Gary Woodland had to play hard to stay in front Saturday in the Houston Open and he added a pair of birdies late in his round for a 5-under 65 that gave him a one-shot lead over Nicolai Højgaard as he goes for his first win since the 2019 U.S. Open.

Woodland and Højgaard (63) were flawless in the final hour at Memorial Park and created some separation going into Sunday, with no one else closer than five shots.

Woodland has become a popular figure in golf for the way he has handled his recovery from brain surgery in September 2023, and earlier this month opening up on his struggles with post-traumatic syndrome disorder during an emotional interview at The Players Championship.

His golf has looked as good as ever, with full control of his swing and full use of his athletic power.

After crash, Tiger Woods told deputy he was ‘talking to the president,’ body camera shows

R.j. Rico, The Associated Press 4 minute read Friday, Apr. 3, 2026

After crashing his SUV last week in Florida, Tiger Woods took out his phone and told a deputy, “I was just talking to the president,” according to body camera footage released Thursday showing Woods' arrest on a DUI charge.

The phone conversation was not captured on video, but Woods could be heard saying, “Thank you so much,” as he hung up and the deputy approached. It wasn't clear if Woods was referring to President Donald Trump, whose former daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump, is dating Woods.

Shortly after the golfer's March 27 arrest, Trump was asked about Woods and told reporters: “I feel so badly. He’s got some difficulty. Very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person. Amazing man. But, some difficulty.”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether Trump spoke to Woods after the crash.

Tiger Woods turns down Ryder Cup captain’s job and seeks treatment out of country

Doug Ferguson, The Associated Press 3 minute read Wednesday, Apr. 1, 2026

Tiger Woods formally turned down the Ryder Cup captaincy Wednesday as he steps away from golf activities, and a Florida judge approved his motion to leave the country to seek treatment.

The developments come one day after Woods entered a not guilty plea to suspicion of driving under the influence when his SUV clipped the back of a trailer and flipped on its side last week on a residential road near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida.

Woods posted a statement Tuesday night saying that he was stepping away indefinitely “to seek treatment and focus on my health.”

A motion filed Wednesday by his attorney, Douglas Duncan, asked a judge that Woods be allowed to travel outside the country to begin “comprehensive inpatient treatment.”

Lauren Coughlin wins Aramco Championship by five shots at Shadow Creek

Mark Anderson, The Associated Press 3 minute read Yesterday at 8:25 PM CDT

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — After coming oh so close to winning at Shadow Creek last year, Lauren Coughlin made sure victory was never truly in doubt Sunday in the Aramco Championship in rolling to a five-shot win over Nelly Korda and the rest of the star-studded field.

Coughlin shot an even-par 72 for a 7-under total and her first victory in two years, earning the 33-year-old from Virginia US$600,000. She won her third LPGA Tour title and first in the United States, after winning in Canada and Scotland in 2024.

Korda was runner-up yet again after shooting a 75 and finishing at 2 under. She made her one birdie on the par-5 18th, avoiding going without one in a round for the first time since the first day of The ANNIKA last November in the Tampa Bay area.

This was her third consecutive second-place finish after opening her season by winning in Orlando, Florida, moving Korda up a spot to No. 1 in the world ranking.

J.J. Spaun rallies to win Texas Open for first title since U.S. Open

The Associated Press 4 minute read Yesterday at 5:51 PM CDT

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — J.J. Spaun came up with two big shots at the end of a long, wet Sunday, one leading to birdie and the other for eagle that carried him to a 5-under 67 and a one-shot victory in the Valero Texas Open for his first title since the U.S. Open last summer.

Spaun won for the second time at the TPC San Antonio, with one big difference. His victory four years ago got him into the Masters. Now he is the U.S. Open champion who already had his spot at Augusta National secured. But this was an important win.

He had yet to finish in the top 20 in seven starts this year — his best was a tie for 24th in The Players Championship — and now the 35-year-old Californian has a validating win in tough conditions as he heads into the first major of the year.

“It’s just — this game is so crazy,” Spaun said. “I haven’t been feeling at the form I wanted to be based on last season, and just trying to take each day as it comes, and accepting what I have."

Nelly Korda hits her stride and builds 2-shot lead in Phoenix

The Associated Press 4 minute read Friday, Mar. 27, 2026

PHOENIX (AP) — Nelly Korda was just as good in the tougher afternoon conditions Friday, posting a 7-under 65 for the lowest 36-hole score of her LPGA Tour career and building a two-shot lead at the halfway point of the Ford Championship.

Korda missed an opportunity late to stretch her lead a little more when she missed a 2-foot birdie putt on the par-5 17th.

But this was not a day to complain on the Cattail course at Whirlwind Golf Club. She followed a great opening round — something Lydia Ko failed to do — with a steady diet of birdie chances and a smooth, confident stroke with the putter.

“I have left a couple shots out there at the end,” Korda said. “But I'm playing really solid golf, and when I do make a mistake, I try not go let it faze me too much.”

HOUSTON (AP) — Gary Woodland felt a weight lifted from speaking publicly about his mental health struggles, and he looked freer than ever Friday with a 7-under 63 in the Houston Open to build a three-shot lead going into the weekend at Memorial Park.

Woodland sounded more pleased with not getting down about one bad swing than his finish of three straight birdies that allowed him to build some separation.

He was at 13-under 127, three ahead of Nicolai Hjogaard (62) and Jackson Suber (63) on a comfortable day of good scoring for most everyone.

Brooks Koepka was an exception. Coming off a 75 marred by three double bogeys in the first round, Koepka had a triple bogey on the par-3 second hole, his 11th of the day. He shot 69 to miss the cut for the second time since his return from LIV Golf.
