HUATULCO, MEXICO – Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk captured a fourth World Triathlon Cup victory Sunday.

 The 31-year-old Canadian completed the 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike and five-kilometre run here in 53 minutes 21 second. He earned a ninth career World Cup podium finish.

“Any time you can win a race at this level you have to be pretty happy,” said Mislawchuk. “It was my fifth time back and the fifth time was a charm.

“It feels just as good as the first win here.”

The Oak Bluff, Man., resident won this event on two other occasions (2021, 2019) and was second in 2022 and ’23. Mislawchuk also captured the Olympic test event before the Tokyo 2020 Games.

American Sullivan Middaugh was second in 53:29, ahead of Brazil’s Vinicius Avi Santana (53:36).

Quebec City’s Mathis Beaulieu was sixth (53:44) while Liam Donnelly, of Campbelleville, Ont., finished eighth in 53:56. Leandre Binette of Saint-Christophe d’Arthabaska, Que., was 24th at 54:54.

Sidney Clement, of West Vancouver, B.C., was 19th in the women’s race, finishing in 1:01:12. Montreal’s Isla Britton was 29th (1:02:24).
