OTTAWA – Two-time world champion hammer thrower Ethan Katzberg added another Canadian track and field title on Saturday.

The Kamloops Track and Field Club member, who won Olympic gold in 2024 in Paris, threw for 81.13 metres on his sixth and final throw to win the national hammer throw championship.

Rowan Hamilton of Chilliwack, B.C., a member of the Kajaks Track and Field Club,
finished runner-up to Katzberg with a best throw of 75.45, his second of six attempts.

Alberta’s Andreas Troschke of the Chinook Track and Field Club finished third with a 68.44 throw, followed by Jared Skeath (65.49) of York University Track and Field Club, and Joey Lussier (62.48) of C.A. University, Laval, Que.

Nicole McKenzie of Royal City Athletics Club beat Maeliss Trapeau of the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club by an eyelash in the women’s 800-metre final. McKenzie clocked in at 2:01.92, while Trapeau was 2:01.95. Trapeau won the 800  metres at the Canadian Athletics Championships in 2025.

Abdullahi Hassan of the Blue Devils Athletics Club won the men’s 800 final in 1:46.75, while Ontario’s John O’Reilly was second in 1:47.58. Hassan represented Canada at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
