Five Canadian athletes to watch in the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to Aug. 2:
Andre De Grasse
The 31-year-old sprinter and Olympic 200-metre champion from Markham, Ont., last competed in a Commonwealth Games in 2014 at age 19. Along with teammates Aaron Brown, Brendon Rodney and Jerome Blake, Canada is a men’s relay gold-medal favourite in Glasgow.
Kylie Masse
Summer McIntosh isn’t swimming in Glasgow, but five-time Olympic medallist Masse of LaSalle, Ont., will lead Canada’s charge in the pool. The 30-year-old is the defending champion in the women’s 50-metre backstroke.
Maude Charron
The Olympic gold and silver medallist in women’s weightlifting from Rimouski, Que., seeks a Commonwealth three-peat after victories in 2018 and 2022.
Ellie Black
The four-time Olympian in artistic gymnastics from Halifax makes her Commonwealth return. Black last competed in 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia, where she was the all-around gold medallist and balance beam champion.
Ethan Katzberg
Reigning Olympic and world champion in men’s hammer throw, the 24-year-old from Nanaimo, B.C., looks for a Commonwealth upgrade after taking silver in Birmingham in 2022.
