TASHKENT – Canadian Taylor Ruck narrowly missed gold in the women’s 50-metre freestyle at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup on Thursday.

The 26-year-old from Kelowna, B.C. finished second in 23.68 seconds, just five hundredths of a second behind Poland’s Kasia Wasick.

Wasick has not lost a short-course race in the event since December 2022.

Finlay Knox, of Okotoks, Alta., finished third in the men’s 100-metre individual medley in 51.65 seconds.

Australia’s Cameron McEvoy set a World Cup record of 20.13 seconds in the men’s 50-metre freestyle, the second-fastest swim ever.

The three-day meet continues Friday.
